In memory of November Rain

Sidenote

What an amazing story – I just caught up on what I’d missed!

Earlier in the thread several people mentioned how neat it would be to see a compilation of stories like Dux’s – even a book. I actually just wrote a chapter for a book about retired racehorses that have been rescued (many from slaughter) and gone on to compete at Rolex, in A shows, therapy programs, etc. It features 20 different horses and their inspiring stories. It’s set to go to press in a few weeks, PM me if you would want more info!

More info please!

Post it here

I would be interested in a copy.

I am working on something just about Dux, but it’s more of a scrapbook, memory book for me.

Penny

Penny, thank you for sharing Tut’s Cosequin with Dux. It will help with keeping him happy and healthy

Colleen

p.s. It was the box that came in the mail, that I had mentioned when on the phone with you the other day. I’ve never had SmartPak’s before, know about them, have seen them in barns, but never used it before. How handy! I have the jar, but this is neat, you get to keep track of doses, it’s obvious if one is ever skipped by accident, etc. Very cool stuff, THANK YOU!

I didn’t want to post a ton of information about the book to be mistaken for advertising it, but it’s called Second Chance Horses for those interested in stories like Dux’s. Goes to press in a few weeks, will probably be available for sale then in a month - first through exclusivelyequine.com then amazon, barnes and noble, all the big retailers, etc.

I will keep an eye out for it. Sounds like it has a bunch of amazing stories and it’s always heart warming to hear about the successful ones. There is a special place in this world for people who rescue these incredible animals, can’t wait to read the stories!

More Background on Dux

Well I received some interesting information on the Sir Dux.

Seems he was bred and born in Argentina, and was rather successful there. I would like to know what his racing name was, and when he was branded.

He was then purchased by a well known Australian but didn’t do well racing in Australia. They discovered he had a talent for jumping, and was then purchased for Adena Williams. It’s my understanding Dux was a special horse to her. Her brother campaigned him though, and he was very ill just before the 1998 WEG, where he almost died. He was sold from there.

The next information, and I don’t have my timeline complete yet, is when he went to the Cheska’s. Then he was leased, and then sold, and I get the impression with his age, he was slowly moved down the ranks abit, until he gets to where he was advertised online.

Anyone able to fill in any more blanks, or able to share any experiences they’ve had with him, I would love to hear from you.

Dux is doing well today. I took off his blanket so he could enjoy the lovely warm afternoon we had. He spent a moment savoring his candy cane and pondering life in the paddock.

Now that’s a great image!!

I finally got around to reading this whole thread and I am just overwhelmed with graditute for you making the effort to go after this horse and it turning out the way it has. THANK YOU THANK YOU.

A similiar thing happened to me, it was a miracle when I found someones horse in a backyard pasture Her previous owner had been looking for her for many years .Her friend had posted about it On Foxhunters On Line and fate had it that I would open that ONE post instead of deleting it. They were in Tenn and had traced the horse to an auction barn in Georgia (bad) about three or four years before that, The auction barn was 16 miles from me and so I went their asking around. No one knew anything … but then at 11:00 that night I got a call from someone that remembered the horse(Arab, blind in one eye) and knew where she was.

They were going to make a book out of it but I don’t know what ever happened with that idea., She is forever grateful to me and we keep in touch and Abby the horse is doing well at age 25.

That horse was so fortunate JUST like this one and may God Bless you for taking her.! Miracles still happen!!!

Anyone Familiar with Australian Racing?

I was googling and found this article, and am wondering if it’s Dux.

http://www.logans.com.au/news-articles.php?id=154

" (Bob ) Logan launched on the turf with Bob Lapointe, who also made his mark on racing. Lapointe, using the (Les) Young expertise, purchased five yearlings in Adelaide in 1979, and Logan took shares in two - November Rain and Easy Date.

November Rain became a triple oaks winner, and Easy Date? Well, she didn’t have an impact to the same degree - in races anyway. After an injury Easy Date was retired to stud, and Young recommended she be sent to Lunchtime, a stallion in which Lapointe had a share. Easy Date was served by Lunchtime in her first two seasons."

Hey Tazer…any update on Dux? I would love to know how he’s doing!

Any new photos?

so funny this popped up again. i was just thinking about this thread this am!

Dux is well

Dux is doing well. I gave him a medicated bath on Monday, and of course, some candy canes  His skin is not 100% yet, but it’s getting there, and the coat coming through has a shine. His face is almost bald, but I was warned about that by prior owners. The scarring on his back and legs has become more apparent. He loves to roll and really dig in, so he tends to always be a dirty boy, and he always manages to get it in his ears, not sure how he always manages that, but, he does. He also loves to have his ears brushed and loves the fussing. So maybe this is all a ploy to get more attention  His feet continue to improve with each trim. He has gained some weight, and now needs to build more muscle. With every opportunity, you’ll find him sharing a fence line with his girlfriend Summer. He is starting to realize what it’s like to just be a horse, with no demands or expectations.

I do have more pictures, let me see what I can dig up. Is anyone able to teach me the trick for posting inside of a message?

Thanks for asking

Thanks for the update Tazer. It’s so good to hear he’s doing well, and as far as pictures come, sign up for a host site, I have used photobucket with success. I would LOVE to see pics of him!

Sounds like he is one happy boy. Great work!

Bumping this up because The Chronicle has an article featuring November Rain (and a few other COTH beasties) in the current edition. It’s online now and coming to mailboxes soon (I hope).

is there any way to post that article on here? i don’t have a subscription but i really want to read it!

I just read it…really great article! I don’t know how to get it online though, so I’m no help there

Thanks for the article!! I have had so many calls about it “do you know your name is in that article…” very fun…

I want to read too!!
