In which the Evil Burrito "gives back"

First, a quick story and then, adorable pictures

Rory coliced yesterday. Poor baby boy has never experienced that before, and was quite convinced that he was “dying” and he threw all his considerable acting skills into this. Mostly by laying flat while wheezing and groaning with his eyes half open and slowly paddling his front legs, which was pathetic and funny at once. Vet came and went, my credit card wheezed and groaned, and the night rolled on. The poop fairy has been a little Scrooge-ish, but he does feel better and has graduated to a food slurry.

Today I took him on a mile long walk around the property, hoping to stimulate or scare some poop out of him (being honest here…). And who tagged along? Why, sweet Odie, the Evil Burrito, who was so worried and fussed over for so long, who last night worried and brayed himself into a state of diarrhea AND pooped in his water tub while the vet was here and his bestie was laying out in the grass “dying” without him.

Up the first hill
Along the road
Down to the front entrance
The beginnings of the big hill back to the barn
Loooooooong hill

I gotta admit, pretty cute.

Also, Odie is “giving back” to the community by taking part in a food drive competition

Woot!!

That’s adorable, but Odie looks so little and forlorn alllllll theeee waaaayy downnnn theeee hiiillll.

We want pics when he gets his uniform.
Hope Rory is back to 100%.

Oh there will be pics. Many pics

oh that second to last picture

are you coming buddy?

the recent very hot day threw a lot of animals for a loop that is for sure.

My kids are dragging

take care and lots of happy poop vibes to you.

Awww, poor Rory, that pic with the mash on his face, his tongue is all curled up! Hope he is feeling better soon, and the sweet little burrito does not have another shock like that.

First Responder Odie!!!
Must.Have.Pics.

I hope Rory has recovered by the time you read this.
Poor guy.

Your sad-but-funny description had me recalling Grataan’s posts about her Trever.
She may have been a whacko IRL, but the posts describing his colic “deaths” & bucketphobia were funny.

Oh yeah I remember that. Yeah that was Rory, moaning and groaning and making high pitched wheezing noises. At death’s door. Though he had more than a feed tub or water bucket to blame.

Good news, two more poop piles after I left in the afternoon and before I came back in the evening. So more food soup and some soaked hay (not much). Odie was still not happy with life after everyone was locked up, maybe because he couldn’t see Rory or maybe just because. Too much trauma . First Rory and Nika are gone almost all day Sat and Sun at a clinic, then this on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Lots of pacing and squeaking and angry head shaking.

Glad Rory is doing better.

Now, IF the Fire Department wins, would Odie wear the dress uniform or the work outfit? Because I can’t get the picture of Odie in a fire helmet, coat and rubber boots out of my head. I would die of the cute. I might even ship stuff from here to the FD to make sure to see pics of that!

Noooooooo!!

It would be their uniform shirt, or a mock up of the coat. No galoshes.

Cute to see Odie returning the care giving favor to Rory after Odie’s long convalescence!

Hope Rory continues to improve with Odie’s support (oh, and yours, of course!)

Hope Rory is back to his normal self by now.

So very cute that Odie came along for the walk, but did he just keep getting distracted or he can’t keep up?

Can’t wait to see pics of him in uniform.

P.

So scary to have a horse colic, it can turn deadly in nothing flat.
Glad that his was not the serious kind and he is fine now.

I expect Odie will be a fine representative and look right down fetching in his outfit.
Looking forward to the pictures.

My vet says young horses are quite famous for indulging in impressive dramas for even the mildest colics; my youngster had the distinction of getting himself hospitalized! He had even my vet going.

Never forget the virtues of the Bumpy Trailer Ride . . .

Your Odie is the most adorable thing that ever was at any time. Officially!

Can I just say that that darn donkey is cute beyond belief. It brings tears to my eyes! Glad that Rory is feeling better.

Love your donk, but you already know that!

When we had a standard donkey, he got into the grain room, munched a fair amount, and we had him vet-checked and oiled for colic. We were standing in an indoor arena at the time, with his little friend, a 2 year old mini. The vet would check the donk, then we would hand the cheek piece of the halter over to the mini, who would walk/trot the donkey around the perimeter of the arena until the vet told them to stop for a check, and then the mini would take up the halter by the cheek piece and force walk the donkey around the perimeter all over again. No lead ropes attached, or anyone else, for that matter. We all stood in the center of the arena while Frick and Frack spent their time doing the colic walk. This went on for quite some time, until the vet was satisfied that the donkey would be okay for the night. Then the lead ropes came out and attached Frick and Frack to their rightful owners. That mini forced that donkey to do what he wouldn’t have wanted to do for the rest of us, and saved me a lot of walking! The donkey turned out to be just fine.

Hope Rory is back to his usual self soon!

Your donkey is absolutely adorable. Hope Rory is fully recovered!

So very cute that Odie came along for the walk, but did he just keep getting distracted or he can’t keep up? [/QUOTE]

Both  When we were in familiar territory, he had no issues with stopping to eat and then catching up, but that last hill was pretty hard. It made my calves burn, and I run! And Rory was really having to hoof it. It’s crazy steep and long. I was a little worried about Odie following us up that hill with his leg, but seemed no worse for wear  I mapped it and it was a mile long walk too. Phew

So far so good, the oil definitely passed yesterday :dead: and his attitude is fine. And Odie has chilled out, so I think we’re through the worse.

I think I need one…

I have enjoyed your many pictures, and I just want to say that I want to live where you live. It’s gorgeous. What great views! You are lucky to live in such a beautiful place. With such a cute donkey.

It is certainly beautiful, we just spent the day on Ft. Ebey Beach, stunning, stunning views from the cliffs over the water on the drive there and back. Glorious day! Glad to hear the critters are doing better.
