Inbreeding Satistics for Idiots

Can someone please help me find a way to interpret the inbreeding/linebreeding statisitcs you find on horses pedigrees? For instance what does the letter (S) mean after a number? How about the (D)? Why when you pull a pedigree on say Equiline do they highlight some inbreeding stats and not others? Are the Chef Des Reines? I am trying to decipher this in order to evaluate TB mares for sport horse breeding.

Thanks ahead of time for your input and help!

Robin

As far as I understand it, the (S) and (D) are for sire and dam.
Ie: War Relic 4S X 4D means that War Relic appears in the 4th generation on both the sire’s side and the dam’s side. I would assume that Equineline only shows the inbreeding/linebreeding that appears on the first page (5 generations). But, someone with more knowledge might correct me

That makes sense for sure…but I wonder why some instead of others…It’s like a mathematical conundrum kinda like default swaps!

I’d be happy to throw my 2 cents in if you want to provide an example of one that’s not following the pattern.

For a second there, I thought this thread should be in “Around The Farm” based on the title…

Hey, Lex, that mullet is HOT!
