I am an organizer for an eventing park in Utah. Because our season is so short, we are constantly looking for ways to keep things fresh (and raise funds) in the winter. We are looking at holding an indoor eventing rally in the late winter/early spring, but are a bit worried about the logistics. Many things will have to be changed from level to level (planning on running grasshopper through p/t), including moving jumps, staking, decorating etc. We are already throwing around ideas of how to make this easier- including using more brush for higher levels, creating “cross country-like” obstacles out of stadium jumps (skinnies, liverpools, corners, etc.). We are also thinking that we might have a judge pick the winners rather than making it a timed event to keep everyone safer. Anyone have experience planning/running an indoor eventing rally? Or any ideas for making the rally work? Thank you!
I would contact the Oregon Horse Center about their indoor eventing series that they have put on the last 2 years.
Is there a way to have dressage as part of the event as well? Our local popular “Derby” has a Ride-A-Test the day before the show, then the next day is the dressage test plus one jump round, then a second jump round the following day. This way the format is similar to a real HT. Good luck!
OHC (Oregon Horse Center) does offer really fun indoor eventing in the rain season. oH. Has a unique design of three arena under one large roof. The grounds man really does great in creation a water jump! ditches and banks. Check out the web site of Oregon Horse Center Eventing o Facebook.
Thank you very for the ideas and replies! I will definitely reach out to the Oregon Horse Center.
