Industrial barn fans over stalls--placement

I am planning on putting in ceiling fans over my stalls for next summer and was looking at these: https://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/ProductDisplay?productId=45002&pageId=ItemDetail&ict=recommendation&icl=proddtl&toSku=101483&fromSku=CF1782&isDoc=N&rel=nofollow

Can I put these over the center of two 10 by 12 stalls and do 2 at once, do you think they will move enough air? Or do I need one for each stall? What size do you recommend? Thanks for any help.

Hmmm…maybe call Farmtek or the mfr. and ask? They don’t seem terribly expensive so if you really want a cooling effect I’d probably err on the side of caution and put one over each stall. You might regret not doing it and then you’ve got a hole in the wrong place if you want to add one.

Thanks! I don’t really have a ceiling per se there, just rafters (my loft ends at the front of the stalls) so we will have to build the support anyway. I thought gumtree said he’d used these particular fans before and I figured others might have as well, so I just thought I’d ask here too and see if people have experience or ideas. Given the square footage they claim to cool it looks like they could easily do two stalls, but I am not sure how much to rely on that.

I am also not sure if I need to go to the extra expense of buying the multispeed control or if the single speed is just fine for basic cooling. It adds up when you are doing a barn not to mention the and cost for all the extra wiring and support beams if I do fans for each stall. I want to get it right but not spend unnecessarily.

ETA: sorry, updated the first post to show the right fan, it should have been the heavy duty one. Anyway, it is supposed to cover 1,150 square feet which ought to be more than enough, I was wondering if in reality it does a good job covering 20 by 12 which even if you look at it as a square 20 by 20 would be 400 square feet.

One per stall is probably overkill.

In terms of recirculation, a fan will push a plume of air downward and for maximum efficiency, that plume should be smaller than the whole volume, leaving the rest of the airspace to flow upward and complete the loop. Said another way, 1 fan cenetered over 2 stalls should give you areas under the fan where air moves downward, and areas further from the fan where air moves upward. If you put too much fan over too little volume you get massively turbulent air flow everywhere and it can be hard on you and the fan.

I’d call the manufacturer and see what they recommend.

I have that fan. One would probably be fine, two would be overkill.

We love ours, we’ve had it for 2+ years. Ours hangs over a little “lounge” area we have in our barn, which is basically where DH and I “flop” when we are tuckered out from farm work. We always turn the fan on when we sit down – cools us off and gets rid of the flies.

Get the multi-speed control. Seriously. If we are not sitting right under the fan, we put it on a higher speed. If we are sitting directly under it, we put it on the lowest speed. You also can reverse directions from that controller. It’s totally worth it.

Note: one controller will control two fans if you decide you want two.

We are very very happy with ours. Good luck.
