I think am pretty familiar with the FEI rules for individual eventing competitions, but I was curious about how they determine team placings for the team eventing? I noticed that there is an extra stadium round on the last day…is that what determines it? From my understanding then, dressage and xc is just one round each for each competitor, with the team standings being determined by combining all of the team members’ scores, and then the final standing is determined by a second stadium round, which follows the individual round. Is that correct?
The best three scores final scores per team are combined to determine team placings (teams can have 3-5 members; if you have four or five members, you get a drop score. There’s at least one team {maybe the Netherlands?} that only has three members. They’d be a team, but wouldn’t have a drop). The top 25 riders after the first stadium jumping round will return for a second stadium round to determine the individual placings. The individual placings will be determined by Dressage Score+XC Score+Stadium Round1 Score+Stadium Round 2 Score.
This is the same format as 2008, which was the first time it was used.
Aha, thank you so much for the clarification!
Yes, and in 1996 and 2000 they held two entirely separate events for the team and individual medals, (another stupid rule) but I can’t for the life of me remember what format was used in 2004. Can someone refresh my memory? TIA.
