Just curious if anyone has any experience or has seen anything like this… About two months ago my horse came up lame and I found this weird growth on the sole that was hard and protruding. My farrier explained that it was an ingrown bar. He removed it and there was zero damage to the tissue underneath and she has been totally sound ever since. However, when picking out her feet in the last few weeks, I’ve noticed she has the same ingrown bar in three other feet (!!!) but not as severe as the first… I have been trying to research what I can about why this is happening or what the solution is; my farrier is coming out Thursday but I want answers now. She is still 100% sound with these new growths and has vetted clean. Any advice or knowledge?? TIA
Every horse has bars on all 4 hoof’s that need to be trimmed down, almost every trim. Totally normal nothing wrong or out of the ordinary.

Totally normal all horses have bars on all 4 hoofs…it’s not some weird growth. It’s part of their hoof.
The bar grows just like the outer hoof wall. If you’re getting laid over bars, you probably need to get your farrier out on a shorter schedule. No panic
Horse is growing that horn for a reason.
I mean, there might be issues with the hooves trying to protect themselves, but if it’s just bar that the OP is noticing for the first time, it very well may be just extra bar.
Any pics, OP?
I would ask him what “ingrown bar” means to him. I’ve never heard that term.
The bar is hoof wall material that turns the corner at the heels, and comes down the frog, at an inward (towards the frog) angle, ending at the mid-point of the frog. It helps give structure to the support system.
Bar material grows just like the rest of the wall. If it doesn’t wear down, it will either grow tall, or will crush and lay over.
If the latter is what your farrier means, then sometimes that happens to horses frequently, just a part of how their feet grow.
But IME, most of the time, bar that grows that fast and lays over is a symptom of a bigger issue with the overall trim
If you can get some pictures, that might help.
