Injectable Omeprazole - for those following my previous thread "Can Ulcers cause sore back and Hind End lameness?"

A while ago I started a thread about ulcer treatment as a last resort for my 7yo Warmblood Mussy who for over 18 months had a very sore back and shifting lameness. He also had a bunch of other weird behaviours such as girthy, hated being brushed, took about 10 minutes once the saddle was on to stop moving like a crab, would throw the saddle to the right when being ridden, would chomp at the bit, grind and show his teeth the whole ride, very cold backed, hated being rugged, ran flatout backwards out of the float, to name a few! After thousands of dollars of treatments, xrays, scintigraphy, etc. I decided to try Injectable Omeprazole as a last attempt as I read online (I know cringe but I was desperate), that someone had a similar story to mine. My vet said it was worth a shot.

So for those that were interested in following Mussy’s progress I have just done a new video diary 4 months in. For those that are curious I have attached a link to the 3 video diaries I did at Week 1, Week 3 and now Week 19.

And you never know, there maybe someone out there like me that just can’t figure out what is wrong with their horse. I used the injections as they are proven to have a much higher success rate than the oral Omeprazole, I have halved the dose over the next few months and am very slowly weaning him off it as studies have also shown that even though ulcers may be healed after one month of treatment, suddenly stopping the treatment can have you back at square one one month later.

And for anyone wondering, no I did not have him scoped prior. I had spent so much money up to that point my vet and I agreed it was about the same price to just try the treatment and see if he responded.
