Wondering if anyone has installed a cat door in a metal barn sliding door. The particular door faces north and it’s left open about 6" so the barn cats can come and go. At some point in the winter with bad storms predicted, it was closed all the way. When the weather got better, come to find out the door was frozen shut, so the cats were in the barn a couple of months. I thought the solution would be to install a cat door in the sliding door. This way sliding door can be kept closed all the time no matter the weather and the cat door can be opened/closed from the inside. I thought someone from COTH might have done exactly what we’re looking to do and they would share with me what they did. Thanks in advance.
Personally, I would secure a 2 x 6 or 2 x 8 (whichever works better) between the door and the wall to which it slides. This board would be placed vertically. I would put a cat door in the wood. I have done this on a small scale in the garage window.
