I recently wanted to rent a public park for XC schooling. The park demands insurance liability coverage of $ 2,000,000 aggregate. It would cost an additional $1200. a year for that amount over what we already carry. I get it that they want to cover their collective rear ends, and its the cost of doing business etc, but just wanted some feedback on what is most instructors carry. TIA
My BO carries a $1,000,000 policy on her business; that also blankets her liability as an instructor or trainer. When I taught beginner/intermediate lessons and worked at a barn that would not extend coverage to me, I too carried a $1,000,000 policy. I feel $2mill is a bit much, just to rent for schooling…I think the coverage amount a trainer carries will vary depending upon your clientele base as well as the amount of people you’re working with. In my case I was doing roughly 15 lessons a week, so I had a light load and lesser a liability, but have found many to carry the same amount.
