Is there such a thing as winter chaps w/ some type of full or half seat?
Mt. Horse pants are unlikely to fit due to the - ‘ahem’ - booty…but I adore their winter coat!
Would like to find something as warm for my legs but that isnt slippery!

True leather chaps are warm. You can puchase Chinks that just cover from your knees up or buy Shotgun Chaps that go to the ankles. The chinks are more open in the seat and back, were as the Shotgun chaps are like pulling on a set of leather pants.
They add an additional layer over what ever you wear underneath, they are wind proof and for the most part water proof. And if you are really cold legg’d try a set of the Woolies, made from sheep skin with the wool still on.
I have a pair of Dublin quilted winter riding pants that have a synthetic full seat. They kind of make you look like the Michelin man but I sacrifice being warm for looking good
I wear either breeches or thermals underneath. They are awesome!

Thx. for the info re: regular chaps being warm!
The husband is trying to talk me into a pair of woolies 'cause he thinks they look cool…But it wouldnt be him wearing them. Plus they look like they’d get kinda gross if you got caught in rain? Or not?
Think also of the weight attached to each leg with the woolies.
Personally, I think they are a little too much. A good pair of chinks or full length shotgun chaps will keep you warm, add some thermals underneath if you need a little more.
Buy a pair of regular chaps slightly too large - then stick nice, warm pants and long johns underneath them and you’ll be warm.
Possibly a bit on the tacky side, but during college I was known to put fleece pajama style pants under my leather chaps and ride like that
I’ve thot about using my old synchilla long underwear! They look like really fuzzy sweats!
When I lived up north, some warm long johns under my shotgun chaps worked great. For my butt, I got a sheepskin saddle seat cover - worked nicely in the summer too.
As for the woolies, I’ve heard that you need to get your horse used to them due to the look, the feel, and the scent. Just putting that out there but I’ve never ridden with anyone who had them.
Go to the Cabelas website and find the silk long underwear. It is very low
bulk and very comfortable. It comes in three weights, the heavier being silk/wool blends.

I’m going to tag onto this with another chaps question. I ride Western and my horse was just cleared from rehab to light trail riding (yay!) but of course it’s winter in Washington state which means rain, and more rain.
I’ve got an oil skin duster, but I don’t love it. I’ve got plenty of goretex coats and so what I’d really like is a pair of goretex, oilskin, or ??? chaps that I can tie behind my saddle and pull on over jeans if needed. Anyone have a recommendation?
I’m moving up there next year!
Unfortunately my old computer died so I don’t have these 2 links anymore, but it seems like Old Macs is making a saddle pad with a rain sheet built in. Rolls up in the front and you pull it over you.
There is also a british set of things called ‘rain legs’ - you tie this deal around your waist, and you can roll down knee length things to cover your upper legs. They market them for bicycle riders.
One thing I don’t like about most of the riding rain pants is that they have no leather or anything on the seat and leg.
I think I have also seen a pair of oilskin chaps that hook to a belt.
