Anyone with picky eaters use Insulin Wise with success? Or even without a picky eater, has Insulin Wise helped?
I have two picky eaters. Neither would eat it, so I tried syringing it for a while. Both horses had a rise in insulin while on it. I had very good luck w Resvantage, a gel cap w resveratrol. They quit eating that … I tried everything but the capsules would roll out of their mouths. Now we are using Metabarol. One will eat it out if my hand like a treat. The other will eat it w a tiny bit of Equine senior. Insulin is well controlled in both right now. Hope this helps.
Thank you so much, this is very helpful!
I have used it with two Morgans. The first was PPID as well as IR, and I started the insulin wise at the same time as Prascend. Next time we did the metabolic panel, her insulin and glucose were in “normal” ranges. Can’t say that it was a causal relationship but my vet saw similar trends in a few Morgans at that time.
I just started another one with some funky insulin values on it about a month ago. Too soon yet to know if her bloodwork is coming back to better levels.
Neither of these mares are picky eaters and had the powder top dressed in just 1/2 lb of ration balancer 2x daily.
I’m glad you had success with it.
Thank you for this information!
Thank you! This sounds like what mine will do!
I have one who has been on Isulin Wise since mid April. It is top dressed on about 1/2 lb of ration balancer, and she eats it right up. ( NOT a picky eater) She has IR, but NOT Cushings. She has not yet been retested to see how effective it has been.
My IR guy was not a fan of InsulinWise and his bloodwork got worse while on it, so we discontinued.
Good to know! Thank you!
Second time I have heard this, thank you!
@kerri I’ve been using Insulin Wise since summer of 2019 …my wb mare and Wb cross gelding are not fussy eaters but have no problems with it …i believe it’s been helping a lot -their numbers are down and normal since starting …however …they did get a complete diet change, switched to low sugar hay and the mare has been off pasture ever since her acute laminitis …I recently just started my Friesian gelding on it …he is a fussy eater and eats it no problem -he’s getting a cup of soaked Timothy Balance Cubes &Hygain Zero, along with some flax , Vitamin E capsules , Magnesium , 2 pumps of Equine Total Gold Oil , Purina Outlast and California Trace Plus.
I think it depends a lot on what you’re carrying it in and how you’re feeding it …I’ve had the most success feeding things that might need to be disguised in soaked hay cubes & feed.
Thank you very much, I appreciate the information!
