Insurance coverage for horse areas?

Now that we’re seeing the extend of damage from Hurricane Florence, I’m feeling discouraged.

I have some moderate home damage, and am waiting a call from the insurance company to schedule a visit. However, with all the other damage in the region, I’m sure it’ll be a long time before anything is resolved.

My biggest concerns are in the horse areas. The barns escaped major damage but several of the paddocks didn’t fare so well. The land is too sloped for serious flooding, but the flip side of that, is instead I have washout ravines and sinkhole-like areas, in addition to fences posts being washed out completely. Is there any insurance (e.g. farm insurance for horses instead of crops?) that would cover repairs for that kind of thing? I’m asking for next time, obviously, but we already put thousands of dollars into earth moving to address drainage issues, and those improvements were literally just washed away. I can’t afford to do this every 1-2 years. Anyone know of a property insurance type/company that would enable me to insure/claim damage to pastures?

thanks

Probably you should call an agent. Pasture is not a crop. Sorry you washed out!!!

You can try American Bankers. I use them and they’re fairly comprehensive in the farm/equine area. You can get a rider for flood insurance. The problem is the definition of a flood. I’m on a slope too and will likely never have rising water. I am covered for rain damage. It sounds like you have that versus rising water.

Palm Beach said it, you’ll be responsible for fixing or having your washed out areas fixed at your cost and flood would not pay on this unless it was under the house. Named storms (in Louisiana) double your deductible on any claim…don’t be surprised.
