Spring has come and gone here. 50* weather replaced with 50 mph winds, followed by 16 inches of snow.
I’m in but may have to scoot early one day to get to the hunt ball (depending on which weekend is chosen)
I would love to do it, but can I have more information like what do we do and can I bring a never hunted young horse?
Where would it be?
beautiful weather today…
And Mr. Horse was finally nearly his old precious self :):) (Aka PullsLikeATrain -from “dressage” thread.) He decided when to do all his own up transitions  He cantered like he meant it (including “counter canter” - his choice of lead, always :o) and a lovely stonking trot. Is he a bad boy? Welllllllll…he’s never ACTUALLY run over a child or a small pony. He always STOPS…er, eventually.
And I can’t stand a kick ride.
I looooooove my baby…
Obama6493, send a PM to Hunter’s Rest and she can bring you up to date on the program and whether it would be advisable to bring a never hunted young horse. My guess is that the combination of never hunted and young might be difficult, but HR is very experienced and can guide you in your decisions.
Smart Alex, sorry to hear about the snow. We got only a dusting, maybe 2 inches, but all of the wind and cold.
Mortebella, sounds like you had fun! Riding in the spring is always a challenge.
He was not difficult actually, Hinderella. It was a relief not to have to push him - he has been NQR for a long time, not anything we’ve been able to find, but just definitely not himself. He is MOST DEFINITELY not normally a horse you have to push, and it’s been a worry and a puzzle. He is getting old, though…rough winter…it was killing me. It was joy to be on him today and see the “old” guy, and fingers crossed hope he has another great year in him…
Mortebella,
Tell us more about him. How old is he?mentally or physically… I mean the horse, not the farrier and the other hunk.
I’m sooo glad you are going to join us! Now if we can get Mountain Bells from Montana and Carrie K out of Michigan this Fall, we are going to have to start writing books about our adventures…
Oh Joy. Sleeting in Northern VA. Appears I spoke too soon…Predictably unpredictable. Pack everything you own. You might need it.

Yeah, I don’t even pay enough attention to the farrier & other guy to guess how old they are. Explains a lot.
MY guy is 18 this year. He is an AQH most people take for Appendix, although he isn’t, actually, but I usually just roll with it; he IS very inbred to 3 Bars if you look back far enough. He was fit as a fiddle fall before last; I did my first hunter pace with him at Tryon and he was 13th out of a 70-plus field, but the placings were a little deceptive, because 3 of the top ten were separated by less than a second. So for my money, that was a top ten finish. Momma was VERY proud I forget our exact results with Green Creek Hounds but similar except the field was 84, that number stuck
Anyway, I had to take the winter off due to a shoulder injury (rotator cuff tear maybe, they were never sure) and he stood around all winter, ridden a little a good junior, but still, not the same, you know what I mean, and by the time I could start riding again, my horse just wasn’t there. He seemed footsore and then he cracked his pelvis, we were never sure how he did it, maybe in the pasture, maybe, he was cast in his stall once, but by the time that “healed” it was fall again…ppbbbbbttt. And this winter has just been the pits. He’s been re-xrayed and he’s stable, my vet says he sees nothing that indicates retirement, but my horse keeps telling me he doesn’t feel good. He objects to footing that’s even slightly less than perfect. This was a tank that I could not get to take what I consider a sane pace on the hunter pace through rocks, mud, break a leg, break your neck, complete TRASH footing. Momma’s worried. But he actually was a reasonable facsimile of his old self the other day, and Momma saw cause for (cautious) hope. Doin’ the happy happy joy joy dance!!!
Carrie K!!
And if Carrie K EVER comes to ole Virginny?!! She stays with ME!!!:yes::yes:
fans self matter of factly*
clutches pearls
sniffs…then faints*
clutched pearls too tight!!*!!
She gets an honorary tiara as a Hunting Princess in Abstentia…
Whickers been tiara shopping and sending the HP’s tiara sample pictures…whoa! She’s on a mission! Look out! And someone has mentioned the dresscode for the Hunting Princess Party as including feather boas, evening gloves, pink sparkley flasks! Wow it’s getting classy now!! ** sniff…faints***
Regalia Question
I was just attempting to think about regalia…
It seems that pearls get mentioned a lot…
How about adding pearls to the regalia in honor of CarrieK?
We can do an honorary “clutching of the pearls” rite for her…
Burning etiquette question
Wateryglen has leaked some of the regalia suggestions. We haven’t settled on the objects themselves as the concepts have been sooo much fun to play with.
Here is one tiara that Wateryglen particularly swoons over… Do you think it is too subtle for the Hunting Princesses? It is suppose to hold up for frequent use…
There was mention in the reviews that the tiaras can be adjusted to fit over a hat…
Mortebella, your guy sounds wonderful, a really fun horse…at least for someone brave enough to stay with his level of energy, which you clearly are. I think we need pictures!
You mentioned Tryon…is that Tryon in Pomfret, CT? If so, perhaps we’re close enough to meet up sometime. I went to the Intro to Foxhunting clinic at Tryon last fall, and may attend again this year with a new friend who wants to try foxhunting.
Now Hinderella is dispensing the Kool-Aid to her friends!! She is truly a convert now!!
If you guys show up wearing those tiaras to go hunting - I am NOT going to talk to any of you.:winkgrin:
If any newbies are still not 100% positive on what to wear to cap with a hunt - check out this photo*.

A purist could ding me on a couple of things and folks are welcome to point those dings out. And I have no doubt George Morris would gasp in horror and faint dead away at the sight of my thighs.
But look at the attire.
Plain plain plain. Simple.
*I admit it; I’m being prideful, and I know that’s a sin. I recently saw this photo and was pleased as punch because I’d only had this horse for about two weeks and every time I rode him I did nothing but giggle.
JSwan he looks like a sweetie…although too big to truly cuddle. Not to worry, my tiara will be strictly for the Saturday soiree. Although I love colored breeches for schooling, I’m very conservative at heart, and will stick to the basic draw-no-attention black coat, white shirt, beige breeches standard.
Hunting Princess regalia is formal evening attire only!
JSwan,
Never fear! The hunting princess regalia is only worn for the evening festivities to celebrate happily surviving the day’s hunting. I started the silliness to recognize Hinderella et al achievements in a whimsical way. I never considered that the fun would reach coth legend status.
The regalia is optional and choice of real attire for the evening is whatever is comfortably fun. My place has lots of dogs, cats, and horses who will want to be included in the evening festivities. Velvet will soon take on that furry look. Flat shoes are a plus. (I can’t wear heels to do the barn tour)
Any questions?
Oh, Thank God!!! I was starting to worry that I’d have to pack formal attire for Sat. night along with all my other stuff. So casual duds will be okay with tiaras?
Yup I have a question!!
Yeah…how come Missy JSwan just HAPPENED to have a great picture of herself handy for attire examples?!! Huh?!! Oh and that horse is like 19 hands tall or something. It takes 2 other hunt members to heave her up onto him!!!
Oh and the tiaras?!! I went ahead and wrote some reviews under my name!! snork!! Wonder if the site will show them?!! Does that make ME prideful?!!
Pearls! definitely pearls and just to embarass HR? Wear the tiara’s on your huntcap! That’ll get 'em all gasping & fainting!!
It’s about the time of day, Darlink!
Wateryglen, I think JSwan is having vapors over the suggestion of tiaras over the hunt caps during the day.
Tiaras are formal evening attire. If you happen to wear your tiara over your huntcap in the evening, you will definitely have an extraordinary look that covers all the bases. Especially after a number of celebratory toasts to the successful day…
We could arrange for a tiara for JSwan’s horse for her evening rides racoon hunting or whatever else is out there in the dark…
