I’m absolutely up for a fall trip! (do we need a new thread for that?). A NJ outing and beach ride sound fun, too, but first I must complete the great trailer quest…and learn how to drive it ;). DH has been looking at the Dodge web site and coveting a new 2500, so perhaps if I don’t object to that big ticket item, I’ll have less objection to a big ticket trailer
How long of a trailer drive from central VA (Richmond area) to your part of NJ? Sounds like a fun trip.
Hinderella, the trailer won’t be nearly as big a ticket as the truck!!! I so very much hope you’ll have a chauffeur to bring you and your cute little pony down here! We’ll figure something out:lol:
Jawa, it looks like a 5+ hr drive. The commute down to Hunters Rest is about 4.5hrs. Might have to add another venue or two to the list… time to start planning!
Pleasantmeadow, New Thread!
Pleasant Meadow,
Please start a new thread, so we can keep all the parties straight…:D:lol:
I’m very game for the trip to N.J. I want to practice it between now and then, though… Just to make sure I know the way, and, umm, so my mares feel at home with your herd…

Posting this from Wateryglen’s computer, so not logged in under my user name. For all those wanting to know, here’s the track of the hunt yesterday…

Wow–thanks for posting that!

Pics!
Thirty knee-high tan and white hounds pour through the open gate…
Thanks for posting the pics! And what an excellent recap!

That moment Betsy said “Ladies, you are in a hunting print” still makes me teary eyed to think about it.
Epic.
I will be posting photos from the races and foxhound tour w/Melvin Poe on Flickr
Great pics. In fact, I stalked all your flickr horsie and doggie and rosie pics, because I’m nosy that way!
Well, the only real question is: did you skew your tiara? Because a skewed tiara is totally not acceptable in the hunt field!
We are a tough bunch!
Carrie K,
You got her look just righhhtt:eek::lol::lol:
I’m glad you didn’t see the rest of us walking like Festus, moaning quietly under our breaths. NO ONE made it through the weekend without missing at least one of the event choices. We had more fun stuff to do than the bodies were willing to attend…
Got to be fit to last. Lots of practice to be ready. And the next coth hunt is going to have naps required.
I just cracked up picturing Betsy trying to get us all down for a nap. It was tough enough to get us all in the appropriate number of cars and headed the same direction at the same time.
“Ladies… you need.at least.two.cars”
And I forget where we were the other night when my husband was telling the story of coming back from a walk and discovering that the chickens had gained access to the mud room and trashed the place . Suprisingly he took it all in stride as he has fortunately been desensitised to chickens.
Smart Alex, Just the thing!
Smart Alex,
Betsy just sent an missive that she has a pair of those adorable chickens to rehome. A lovely rooster and his favorite hen. They are pretty, too. Spare feathers would look lovely in your steeplchase hat as they look like proper partidge feathers.
What a perfect gift for your husband! Such great company when he watches TV! I bet the rooster will watch whatever sport he wants, crack a cold one, and comment on the babes in the ads!! Could be taught to belch at the right time! Think of the possibilities!:lol:
Advanced napping with Mortebella: Steeplechase style - on blanket thoughtfully provided by hostess. Snuggle deep into purloined jacket. Stay below the wind line. Keep ear cocked for next race. Hoist flubber upright in time to see the beauties stream from the paddock towards the course. Pick favorites with rest of railbirds. Watch the off. Snuggle back down below wind. Keep ear cocked for call. Wrestle flubber upright to watch finish. WOOT! WOOT! Never mind lying back down; flubber will collapse on its own.
With a small change of accoutrements, advanced napping is adaptable to a number of equine activities: showing, foaling, you get the idea. Peeing in a trailer will get you extra points. Behind a bush or a car will, also.
I boss of mine back in the early 80s did in fact have a pet rooster who did in fact sit in his lap to watch the Sunday football games.
I bet the rooster crowed when his team scored!!:lol:
Heck, I have enough trouble keeping my mother from dropping off retirees and unwanted roosters. I don’t need to import them from Virginia.
I had a rooster when I was a kid who would sit on the fireplace hearth and watch TV every evening before supper.
But Virginia roosters are special…
Especially a genuine Hunter’s Rest pair, that have been fed a gourmet diet from fine restaurants during foxhunting season. I’m sure they would be willing to import their favorite food… But you already have it…
Stink bugs! :eek::lol:
Thank you all for the pictures and reports
I went to the Easter Vigil tonight just so Lent would be over a few hours early and I could see what kind of time y’all had.
Looks like it was a blast. I had a blast just reading about it.
