Interesting article about equine sales in Florida wonder how many horses will be sold this ye
ar if trainers/sales agents read this…
Great article - thanks! There are similar laws requiring agent disclosures and bills of sale in California, too. It’s a good thing.
interesting that in FL the law limits commissions to $500
That should be posted in every porta pottie on the showgrounds in Wellington and Ocala so no one can say they didn’t know. Would probably have to be re-posted frequently, as some who don’t do business ethically would make them disappear.
The California version should go up at Thermal.
did not know that about commissions… WOW.
It’s only limited to $500 if it’s not an agreed price above that in writing.
I will bet the farm that most of this law will vanish into the sunset as fast as the agents can drive once the horse has changed hands. Finding trainers from out of state will be difficult and purchasers who find themselves burned will be in the sane murky waters they are now. Nothing changes. It will cost mega$$$ to chase violations down.
This law came about because of the high dollar TB sales in Florida, and probably the same for California. It is not a new law and several TB consignors that had “questionable” sales transactions are no longer in business. You don’t mess with someone like Jess Jackson who has (had) deep pockets.
