Admittedly I skimmed the article, but it made me wonder if the same or similar exists in any herding prey animal. Necessary to keep the herd safe from predators.

I’m assuming all these races are humans against ridden horses. To be really fair, shouldn’t the runners have to carry a horse? I’m kidding, but I wonder if it would be harder for humans to outrun a horse that didn’t have the burden of a rider.
