Interesting Color, Can The Experts Explain

I came across this horse today when looking through our Craigslist type ads. This is not my horse and I do not know who owns this horse.

Gives the stallion as Dun and mare as bay. Is this the sliver gene working or sooty gene?

Anyway I kind of like her. No not buying, have plenty of my own thank you!

Yes, I know she’s a little scruffy and not perfectly conformed. I was not commenting as a breeding prospect. She just seems like a fun type of horse that would do anything for you.

My vote is silver bay.

But I’m not a color expert.

I vote silver also.

She looks fun

Me three, silver bay is my first guess.

My vote is just chestnut lol… I’ll wait for ACC or JB!

Yep, looks very Silver Bay.

Given it’s the UK, where they seem to call everything “dun” there’s no telling what he really is, but he could easily be buckskin.

and yes, she does look VERY fun!

UK and Ireland do tend to call them duns  I’m pretty sure though that the dun gene is not present in the Connemara breed (even though they often describe Connemaras as such)

She looks classic silver bay. Her sire is probably buckskin but could be silver buckskin, I don’t know if silver is in connemaras or not. Her dam could be silver bay too. Hard to say without seeing pictures of them or at least knowing who they are. Seems that would be a basic bit of info, sire and dam?

I suppose I could email politely and try not to be a timewaster. Here’s the think, I see lots of Buckskin Connemara’s here but very few, if any, Palomino’s. There might be and odd DD but I’m not sure if you can stand a DD with full approval. I’m using the term DD because over here they call them cremes, but I doubt that most are actually Cremello, more Perlino, owing to the very low chestnut population of Connies. When I’ve been out and about at shows I haven’t seen any funky colored sporthorses and most Irish horse’s are solid basic colors. It seems anything different is from the Connie.

Thanks guys!

Terri

You New Yorkers were never much good with the old geography.

I’m supposing you meant North Carolina, about 500 miles south… Guess your “geography” isn’t so hot either. I’m fairly certain that JB knows that Ireland is not part of the UK.

You’ll find my American geography is pretty good.
Your irony button however, could do with a reset.

Yeah right. You should know my irony button works pretty well.
