If the study only focused on BE data from '05 to '15, I think the comparative data that can reach to include through '21 would have been more impactful given the advent and wider distribution and use of MIMS and related frangible technology.

Especially here in the USA where we have a wider grant induced availability of the devices to go more country wide to the competitions.

@Equibrit, serious question, how widespread in the UK right now is frangible technology? At all levels?

Agreed and can’t wait to see stats with frangibles included. Per the FEI forum data they are reducing serious falls quite a bit.

In British Eventing, frangible technology has been obligatory, on suitable fences, at all levels since 2006. In 2016 MIM clips were approved for use at all levels. BE provides kits free of charge to BE event organisers ever since 2012. Details of every fence on every course are recorded by BE. Report forms are completed by officials for every incident. If you are interested, there is plenty of info and stats about safety published online by BE.

Thank you for that. I cannot say that I knew those answers (Hence my query).

I appreciate the info.

There are also comparatively large numbers running. BE runs 170 events between March and October so there are nearly 94,000 entries per year. That generates a lot of data. Unaffiliated competitions don’t have a centralised system in which to record safety data.
