International shipping for a saddle - Help

Hi All,

I was wondering if any one has shipped a saddle internationally reasonably?

I have a saddle in Ireland that I am trying to get to Canada. My family is in Ireland and one of my cousins is done riding and happens to have a saddle that works for my horse that she is giving me, but I need to get it to Canada!

The costs I have been find have been around C$900 and others have been around 800 euro. While that’s a great “price” for the saddle I think it’s thats a little insane to pay for shipping. I could almost fly to Ireland and back and get the saddle myself! (Which is sort of an option, but I don’t have any vacation time left for 2024 lol)

When I have paid for shipping from French brands the shipping has been around C$200, and I understand that’s a business, but is there no way to get that price for an individual?

I have looked at luggage shipping which give a good weight, andy dad has loads of suitcases in Ireland that I could ship the saddle in, but is that the way to go?

Can anyone help and give suggestions? I really would like to get that saddle to Canada at a reasonable price!

Thank you In advance.

last year my daughter bought a dressage saddle from a seller in England having it shipped to Texas by UPS, cost was $157.

The first quotes she got from numerous shippers were in the $600 to $700 range

(and the saddle she bought as used arrived in less than a week, the saddle fitter used by my daughter said the saddle had never been fitted to a horse. It did fit daughter’s horses as if it been specifically made for her, )

Did you try Air Canada Cargo? That or UPS?

Alternatively, does your family know anyone flying to Canada that can at least get it in the country for you?

I bought a Devoucoux from the UK back in 2020 and it came via FedEx for around $200

Are you declaring a value? Could the issue be customs fees?

No, there was nothing about the customs or a declaration of value - I didn’t actually declare a value since I’m not buying it

I have tried UPS and it was around 300 euro which I still pretty expensive. I don’t know about air Canada cargo. I will look into that.

No one is coming over, they were just over in August, I wish we had figured this out when they did come over it would have saved a lot of hassle!

Look at UPS through PirateShip.

It says from the US only :disappointed:

Hmn. Maybe an obvious question? but can you trim the box to fit as snugly as possible? Sometimes 18" x 18" is half the price as 20x20.

The box is 24x18x22, I guess there’s no making it smaller but I will double check it for sure!
