Invictus pads-are you still liking them? or does Thinline still win?

I just want a minimal half pad, anti slip, impact protection.

I like the look of the Thinline pads too but am struggling to get one to the UK for reasonable money at a reasonable speed…the Invictus is already in stock here in the UK for only a little more than what super quick shipping will cost me, so they are comparable in cost to me.

which is better given that money is not the issue?

the saddle fits, so i want slim, unobtrusive, just a nice added layer of protection because i am a nice horse mother!

I’m a thin line fan and have several types. Seem to last forever and make the horse happy

Close contact saddle here, not dressage. I love my Invictus pad. But it’s really not the same as Thinline, and I still use my Thinline pads on some of my horses. The Invictus is thicker, and I’ve found that it doesn’t work well on my horses where the saddle fits perfectly. In those cases I still use a Thinline. My two upper level horses, though, are a tad slim through the withers and the saddle I use on both of them is a hair wide. So the Invictus works beautifully, and my TB in particular seems to respond well to the feel of the pad.

So if your saddle is a great fit as is, I would probably stick with Thinline. If there’s room for a pad, then I wouldn’t hesitate to go with an Invictus pad.

This is really good advice. I have an Invictus pad and have found it to be extremely useful under my saddles. But I tend to fit my saddles a bit looser than is popular today. I don’t like a super tight fit through the tree so the Invictus has turned out to work extremely well for me and my horses.

On a saddle fit by someone who fits them a little closer I would trust PNWjumper’s feedback implicitly and go with the Thinline, but I do love the Invictus!

So I have never tried the invictus, but had I know it was out there, I probably would have bought it ahead of my ecogold.

I was at a military conference last fall and saw the D30 technology which is in their pads, up close and personal. As in they wrapped my hand it it and smashed my hand with a hammer. Right then and there I wanted a half pad made with it and a helmet made with it! Unbelievable technology. I had forgotten what it was called though (the conference was a few football stadiums in length, I forgot my own name by the end of it). And only remembered when my coach told me about the “orange stuff” in her Kentucky boots.

Anyway. That is my contribution. The material and technology it is made of is really freaking cool!

If you can find the material itself, you can cut it to fit a Mattes correction quilt…the D3O itself isn’t all that thick, I don’t think.

I did the same thing w/ the Poron xrd because all the pads it came in were too thick for my saddle. I am actually liking it a bit better than the thinline.

Have you considered the acavallo gel pads? They are sold in the UK.

Horse does not like the sensation of sticky gel and BRONCS (and this horse can really bronc) and i am just not willing to try and ride through that having broken my collarbone this time last year :frowning: he does the same whether it is next to his skin or on top of a cotton pad.

tollertwins i will go and search as i too really like the tech behind it.

I do have the saddler in 2 weeks anyway and i think he will say the saddle is a touch wide where chubby boy has muscled up so i will maybe be ok with the invictus pad anyway but i think i will keep researching and wait on his opinion also
