IRH "IR4G XLT" helmet?

I’ve seen a few of these helmets popping up recently and wasn’t really sure what they were, but I looked into it and turns out it’s actually made by IRH. Not the biggest fan of their helmets, I typically just see them copying other helmet brands (OneK and CO?), but this one looks more original than most of theirs (maybe a hint of samshield lol). I can’t decide how I feel about this helmet, it looks nice and has a lot of options color wise, but it seems a little cheap. Anyone have experience with these helmets?

The IR4G was IRH’s entry in the design category of One K and Samshield. This option, the XLT, came out in 2018 so it’s still very new in the helmet world. Aside from the obviously different ventilation systems, the exterior materials do have a similar feel to the upscale brands and the removable plush liner is basically the same. However, the fit is different (on the rounder side) and people who fit into an IR4G are usually those who were almost but not quite there with a One K, Samshield, or a Charles Owen AYR8. So my recommendation is to get fitted at a tack store and try it on. Keep in mind that price is not an accurate measurement of how safe a helmet is for you - you should prioritize fit.

Personally, I am on my third IR4G in 3 years - I love them, I ride a lot which means more falls, and I love that the lower price means I don’t hesitate in the least in replacing my (still looking brand new) helmet after a hit.

I believe the XLT is actually based on the KASK helmets?

I have the older IRH 4G, and had a couple of IRH Elites before that. I’d say pretty much the same thing as Flexion did above - they fit me, they don’t look hugely out of place in a show ring, and I love that I can replace mine for a reasonable price if something happens. I don’t know if the more expensive helmets would fare better or worse on a safety test, but they’re all similarly constructed, and I know I replace mine a lot more often than my friends who splurged on $500 helmets and can’t afford to buy another on short notice.
