She’s looking good.
Fifteen months, fifteen hands! She looks good and paused to look at something, so finally a decent picture to share. I can’t believe how much they change!
That is a substantial filly you’ve got there! She’s lovely.
Grey
Look at that bone!
She is a big lovely thing, isn’t she!? I’m so pumped. I know my farrier and vet hand out compliments to clients as a way to keep us happy, but they both say really good things about her and pet poor Libbi on the nose as a consolation Libbi normally gets all the attention because of her fancy socks.
Here is Volley’s sire a couple weekends ago, his leaser took him into a handy hunter type class.
She looks like an easy keeper. Is she?
Yep, she gets 1.5 lb TC Balance and some flax and vit E, and a negligible amount of hay at night, pasture during the day. At a good weight, unlike her big sister in a grazing muzzle with the same diet and being ridden and still chunky
She really is a lovely type. Two good looking mares!
It’s a shame her father seems to have no talent, though. She probably inherited that. You should send her to me, so you don’t have to look at her and be sad about it.
Ha I went through all the emotions reading this
I would be sad, yes, maybe you are right
A quick update, I scraped the mud off everyone and decided to measure.
She is an INCH shorter than my 4 yo mare, who relaxed in her own barn is 15.2 and a half (but still downhill and still hasn’t sprouted any withers to speak of…)… Also I usually use the oversized halter but since I had both out, I crammed her head in the regular horse halter just barely
Oh my, virtual string tests hints the need for a bigger mounting block in the future.
My farrier string tested her at 17.2 but I really really hope not
Adorable horse, but y’all are scaring me in the discussion. My March ‘23 is 15.2. Am I also going to have a behemoth?
You’re gonna need to buy a bigger blanket.
I dunno, I got this chart from a trainer-friend (she circled where her weanling was at the time, we were both going ack but she’s even shorter than I am at about 5’). But! I’ve also been told string tests don’t lie either soooooo… It’s a wait and see. She has a great-grand sire who is 17.2 so if it’s a throw back, it’s a biiiiig throw back. Based on the chart, she will be 16.3, string test is 17.2.
The string test on my 4 yo was shorter than I had estimated based on parents’ heights (16.1 and 16.2) hitting between 15.5 and 16 inches. I wasn’t sure how accurate that was but since she has been hovering at the same height for a while now, I think she will wind up not being as tall as I thought she’d be. She will still hopefully grow some withers (I did sell my half panel saddle JIC) and I know with more time undersaddle she will muscle up but I’m starting to think she won’t even get to 16h. She actually isn’t even on the chart because she was 13.3 on her yearling birthday. But she’s built like a tank and takes up a lot of leg.
Thankfully not a cold climate and they are fat and furry, so I’m saving my money on her until she’s done growing! My 4 yo is already in an 81 but I’m not blanketing her either because she got white hairs on her withers and above her tail from it rubbing, so obviously not the right shape. So they are just staying furry this winter, and as you can see, they aren’t missing any meals Probably not cheaper than buying a couple different blankets…
Your dog’s expression in that photo is sweet.
It’s very deceptive
He/she just seems to want to be part of the goings on. Photo shoot in the barn requires all household members and someone has to make sure it’s properly supervised…
