Irish Draught from Canada update thread

Why do you hope that? She is perfectly shaped to ride bareback. Never change, filly.

You can send that one to me if you get sick of her, too. Those white legs look like a lot of work in your climate. Just think of the money you’d save on QuikSilver if you shipped her out to me.

 I am not a bareback rider, that’s why! But I agree, she’s perfect. She knows it too.

She is lovely! Definitely looks like a horse with a “leg in each corner” and can’t wait to see her as she keep developing. I love the Irish horses.

Of course she does. She’s an Irish mare. They’re like cats that way. Born knowing their worth.

I figured it’s been a minute!

She’s… big. I refuse to measure her right now, eyeballing her I’d guess somewhere under 16hh and maybe not even quite 15.3 and I’m sticking with that. Weight? Heavy but graceful. Farrier says she’d be a size 2 but he’d have to stretch the crap out of it if she needed shoes and it might be easier to take some of the heel off a 3. She’ll be two at the end of the month.

None of that flimsy, spindly youngster stuff here, nosiree! She looks great! :star_struck:

No, she’s a stout one.

@TheJenners you must be thrilled with her.

Over the stinkin moon thrilled.

And she looks as though she’s on her way to having a natural lush, full WP-type tail at only 2. Even her tail is stout!

She ought to be on a poster for the Irish Tourism Board, she’s so classic.

She looks kind. I love her soft eye in all her photos. So lovely! You’re going to have fun with her. :purple_heart:

We need a thread title edit! I keep forgetting this is about your adorable babies and not some modern-day border crossing nightmare.

Good thinking, done!!

I hate to break it to you but the best predictor of ID final height is usually height at 12m + 2 full hands.

Not 24m!! oops.

Never heard that before?

Missed the thread when first posted, but she looks like a lovely creature!
Whatever her adult size is, I feel confident that it will be “just right.”

Really? that’s the general rule of thumb in england and ireland. Although I typed it wrong- add 2 hands to the 12m height. 1 full hand to the 24m height. So likely an inch or so either side of 17hh

Width is the real unknown- they keep getting wider till about age 8 so you have no idea really, especially the crosses.

Gonna need a bigger girth…

Ah haaa okay that makes more sense, because two hands to the 24 month height yiiiiikes. Still, yeah, I’m resigned to the fact that she’s going to be larger than anticipated  But 17.2 or 3 would be a little out of pocket, 16.2 or 3 would at least be manageable. I have her first BF picked out for a few years down the road, and after an in-person visit he’s moooore than large enough at a vet-measured 17.1 from his inspection as a 4 yo so perhaps a little taller now.
