Irish Draught from Canada update thread

That is one Humongous baby girl! :flushed:
I don’t know how I missed the Midnight Raiders tale, but as a horseowner, I believe that kind of cardiac exercise keeps us young.
Either catching them in the act or the post mortem are equally heartstopping.

 For your surviving taters.
I keep checking mine - Yukon & sweet - for blossoms & nada 🫤
There is nothing better than a baby potato :yum:

Thank you! She had a short thick neck as a weanling so I had/have some concerns. It’s still a little thick but at least it finally got some length  She will be a chonk for sure, her dam is a traditional ID while her sire is more modern, so she keeps me on my toes as to how she will wind up between the two. The height so far has been a surprise.

The neck will get longer somehow. It’s an ID thing for sure to have short upright cob looking necks as babies and them somehow grow out of it, despite the fact I don’t think the neck technically grows longer past a certain age? Anyway it happens!

That’s why I wouldn’t present her till 4 tbh. Let her pop some withers too.

She already has more withers than my 5 yo IDSH, I’ve almost given up on that mutton-withered wonder. She didn’t get dinged at inspection for it though - her spicy attitude on the other hand

There is still time! So many keep growing till 7 or 8 by popping withers late.

She’s lovely! You must be thrilled (although I remember you were hoping for less height.)

Well, market likes height so I’m not exactly down in the mouth about it and God invented mounted blocks for a reason. It was (is?) just a surprise since her parents aren’t very tall. Apparently her sire is putting tall babies on the ground though, which isnt too surprising with Mountain Pearl (17.2) back there but he’s… BACK there. Strong genes I guess.

But thrilled every day yes!! With her Big Girl Haircut this morning she looks like an adult going outside.
