Irritable bowel syndrome in horses

Looking for recommendations for any vets that will do phone consultations or referrals and specialize on IBS in horses.

The horse had colic surgery to try and determine the cause of chronic colics, and there was nothing mechanical, but was diagnosed with IBS. The prognosis isn’t great from the vet school on QOL, but the owner is getting mixed information as well.

Just looking for some other options for second (third, forth) opinions on a bit of a rapid timeline.

She is beyond amazing in her diagnostic abilities.

Do you know if she will do a phone consult? I’m looking for more help than my vet is able to provide in managing PPID. Thank you.

What’s the whole diet? IBD and IBS are relatively new things to be investigated in horses. Many of the scenarios I’ve seen in a FB group I admin appear to be rooted in leaky gut, caused by any number of things. Many of those horses work with no long-stem fiber for a good long while, 3-6 months, and they have the most common allergens removed - soy and alfalfa. That does make it harder to feed enough calories and nutrition, but there are several feeds now that fit that criteria. At the very least, things starting with removing all hay (fresh grass is usually ok), so that the intestines can get some relief from the scratchy bulkiness of hay.
