Is anyone in New Jersey/near Monmouth Park

Hi,
I’m moving in a week to New Jersey for an assistant training job at the racetrack. I’ve literally never been to the area, my boss is understanding that I have a horse want want to lesson and compete a little.

Is anyone in the area? I’ve found a nice little place to board (I hope) and have been surprised by how many horses seem to be in that general area (I have literally only driven through NJ).
I saw that Holly and Marlyn Payne are about an hour away (I think), but that’s a little farther than I can go once a week- does anyone have any suggestions that may be a little closer to my area- my horse with be near Colts Neck.
My horse and I have been in Ocala, we’ve been arttempting to go training level although we were never able to find our confidence down here this year (the courses have been very tough) and I’m a little bit of a wimp when left to my own devices (which is ironic seeing as I ride racehorses lol).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Back in the 80’s-90’s when I had my TBred racehorse training farm in NJ, I was friends with a gal who was just starting up a H/J sales business. I haven’t been in touch with her in years but it looks like she’s very successful and well known + has an impressive farm. I’m sure she knows every boarding/lesson barn in the area. Wouldn’t hurt to give her a call. She has a Facebook page too = Metzger’s Meadow Farm. Her first name is Sue.

I am about 30 minutes south of Monmouth Park. How can I help you?

I’m from this area as well. Welcome! It’s expensive, but convenient to many horsey areas (and NYC). It does have its charms. Are you looking for suggestions for eventing trainers near where you are boarding?

I guess I’m looking for any helpful advice.
Definitely looking for someone to ride with, the people I’ve found are a little too far north for what my schedule can allowe on a regular basis. I’d be happy to ride with a good show jumper who likes TB’s if there isn’t an eventer close by that I like.

Any horse trials I should absolutely go too? I’ll be able to compete a little bit and it looks like there are a couple that are decently close?

Thanks!

I haven’t competed in a little while but Flora Lea is in NJ and has a couple of recognized events a year. It’s a really nice farm and a fun event.

If you go about an hour inland from Monmouth you will find some of the best horse country in the United States!

Sorry, I know that’s not super helpful. There’s a good bit closer to Colts Neck, I just have no experience with it.

The Horse Park of NJ is a great facility. While I haven’t ridden in their trials, I did go there with my trainer to school and rode in many arabian shows there in a past life.

Agreed with @Texarkana The Horse Park of NJ is a lovely place–I audited a Lucinda Green clinic there, plus you can spectate at Jersey Fresh. They also have cross country schooling days.

I only took dressage lessons with her, but I used to train with a wonderful instructor who is “traveling,” not affiliated with a particular barn–she’s not focused on the upper levels, but if you’re looking for someone who is very patient and positive and will give you a lower level foundation, I can PM you her email address.

I’m not sure if Wendy Lewis would be close enough but I lessoned with her a bit when I lived in NJ. She is kind, patient and a good instructor.
