Hi all!
I’m in the market for a Black Country saddle, and I know there are other reps that I could work with to buy one, but Trumbull seems to still have the best trial, and have been fairly responsive to my emails. I know that a lot of people have had trouble with selling a saddle through them/getting paid…but would you still potentially purchase a saddle from them? Or go elsewhere?
I believe someone replied on the other thread that they had bought a saddle from them, returned it and had not been credited their money back. Might take a look at the thread.
Eep good to know. I have been considering buying from them but haven’t yet since suddenly all their used saddles are in the 2500-4000$ range…
No. Several people have had bad deals with getting money for consignment saddles from them and if that’s an issue there’s no telling if they’d exchange or refund you on a trial saddle that didn’t fit.
The Yelp and Yellow Pages reviews for Trumbull Mountain might be helpful for you in making a decision.
Have you looked at Pelham Saddlery in NH? They have a ton of used saddles. I’ve had good experiences both buying and selling used saddles through them and Janie, their saddle fitter, is terrific to work with. I did get a saddle from Trumbull Mtn a couple years ago when I was saddle shopping and didn’t have any issues. It didn’t fit my horse so it was returned and I got my money back no problem. Can’t speak for more recent experiences.
I hate to hear that about Trumbull Mtn. I had excellent service with them, but it was quite a few years ago. I have consigned several saddles through Pelham Saddlery and always had fantastic service. They always have a great supply of used saddles, but if you are looking for used Black Country saddles that does limit your shopping.
I bought through Usedsaddles.com a few years back and was quite satisfied. The item was better than advertised and price was very fair. Since I didn’t need an exchange or any sort of customer service I can’t comment on that.

NO!!!
Look at their reviews on BBB, Yelp, YP and here. I would never recommend doing business with them.
Where are you located? Kate Wilson from Dutchess Saddlery can help you buy a BC and I believe Annette Gavin from Hastilow can as well.
When the original saddle fitters were there my buying experience was a good one. When those people left and the new owners took over, the business went downhill.
The new owner sent me saddles that were very off thee mark whereas the original fitter got it very close the first time. When I tried to work with the new owner she dropped the ball…yet had plenty of time to be on the internet advising potential new customers. How about taking care of the existing ones???
Argh…that’s awful! Thanks all. I have a trial saddle on the way from them (I only paid for the shipping), to see if it fits my mare. If it works out I’ll order a new one through a more reliable seller. Thanks for all the suggestions–I hate to see this happen. Trumbull used to be recommended wholeheartedly for BC’s!
They sent you a saddle without charging your CC for the amount of the saddle, just shipping?? It’s pretty standard practice for the tack shops to charge your CC for the whole amount and then refund it if it doesn’t work…
There are plenty of other saddle fitters who carry the same brands including me with nice trial policies. Mine is a week from delivery.
Yep- shipping only. I actually know a lot of fitters that charge shipping only/won’t charge you for the saddle, or put a hold for the amount.
Thanks- I will be in touch!
I would check my card balance online regularly, just to be sure.
