I used to lease a registered Hanoverian. His owner told me that he was registered as Coby, but she didn’t have his papers and didn’t know much else. He had a brand on his neck that was very hard to read, but I’m almost sure it said 462. I could not find a brand anywhere on his hip. She told me different ages each time I ask, but he was between 9 and 14 I’m guessing. He is no longer at my barn, but he ges by Beethoven and is a 16.2hh chestnut gelding with one white sock. Is there any possible way to trace his bloodlines? Is there somewhere I can at least start?
Maybe contact the registry? You can search through www.horsetelex.com as there is some hanoverians in there.
Interesting that he has a brand on his neck rather than the hip. Perhaps start searching for registries that brand on the neck. Good luck to you.
My registered Hanoverian gelding is branded both on his left hip and on the left side of his crest up near his poll. There are 3 numbers on his crest. I contacted the Hanoverian Verband in Germany and they easily got me a copy of his papers and info on his breeder. It takes them a while to get back you but they did get me everything I asked for.

Ditto this. My 1994 German-bred Hanoverian was branded on his hip, as well as the 3 numbers along his crest, up near the poll. iirc (don’t have his papers nearby) it’s the last 3 numbers of his registration number, or something like that.
Contact the Verband. They could definitely identify the horse.
