Is it possible to have breeches altered?

I recently dropped ten pounds and seem to be holding steady at this weight. I have probably 5 pairs of breeches that are just too baggy to ride in. There are only two pairs I would consider worth taking in and that would be expensive to replace.

Have any of you ever done this? It’s not like hemming a pair of pants. FWIW the waistband isn’t the issue. I have boxy hips and these breeches were already too roomy in the legs and especially knees.

Hoping I can salvage them.

Of course - find a good alterations place and it should be straightforward for them.

How easy it is (and whether it’s worth it) depends on the construction. Are the seams flat and open or are they overlock stitched?

Ask on a local group about finding a good alterations place. One that does fancy wedding clothes would be my choice.

As it happens, there’s a tailor down the street from me. I’ll take one pair in and see what he does. His reviews are very good. :crossed_fingers:

A lot about altering pants depends on whether they can take in the back seam, or if they need to do it all with side seams. Back seam gives a better fit. My guess is knee patch breeches might be easier than suede full seats.

It’s a complex garment, to be sure. But I miss wearing such quality breeches. I’ll check back in when they’re done.

Good news! There’s a hole-in-the-wall alterations shop a few blocks from me, and the seamstress took in two pairs for $24. So, yay!
