Is there a furniture cover that works?

My couch looks like hell! The dogs leap on it and sit on it and look out the window on it. All that is fine but it’s really beat up. I have tried furniture covers in the past and they either slipped or got ruined quickly.

Dogs: 80 lb GSD that likes to leap on to the sofa from across the room
30 lb terrier mix that likes to lick the sofa and jump on it with dirty feet.

Is it unrealistic to think I can find a product that actually works?

Our covers have been the fleecy/ fuzzy (but not long faux fur fuzzy) oversized blankets which do very well on our couch that is a microsuede material. The blankets were like $20-30 at TJ Max/ Marshall’s and don’t slide off easily even with the rambunctious 60lb golden pup jumping on them. They also discourage the older lab mix from licking the couch and are super easy to throw in the washer/ dryer. I don’t think they would work as well on other material couches (leather for example).

I have a 20yo Surefit cover on a hide-a-bed loveseat.
It’s an older style that tucks in around cushions & has ties to fit to the arms.
Cats embed hair on it, occasionally puke on it & it washes beautifully.
It’s a blue denim & after so many years of being washed, has softened & faded like a well-worn pair of jeans.

I have a futon that has a full-size mattress that is covered with a waterproof mattress cover and a fitted sheet that can be washed or replaced easily. I don’t know if a similar set up would work on a sofa, but it might be worth a try.

In the past when I had a crazy ACD jumping on and off the couch all day, I had good luck using two blankets (pick whatever material “grabs” best against your upholstery).

Take the first one and lay it flat across the seat cushions, tucking it in on all four sides. Then take the second and use it to cover the back cushion/headrest area by tucking it in behind/under the seat cushions.

Mamma Mia covers, they are pricey but work great

I picked up a thin cotton quilt from Homegoods a couple of weeks ago and so far am very happy with it. Wanted something with a good pattern that was big enough and easily washable (OMG the number of covers that say “spot clean only”?!?! WTAH?!). Of course when I went back last weekend to buy more the good patterns were gone.

I 2nd Momma Mia. I have one and plan to get MORE. Love their covers

I buy/have bought oversized large blankets/bed covers for my couch. I have bought, too, a paint drop cloth (real cloth, not plastic). The drop cloths come in a variety of sizes and are fairly rip-resistant. Since I rarely have visitors to my house, I don’t worry a lot about what I have covering the couch nor how it fits. Even so, my dogs will “nest”, pulling the cover off of the furniture, and I will have to straighten everything out.

Because I DO allow my dogs on the furniture, I buy used furniture. Therefore, if it gets dirty, torn, whatever, I can replace it cheaply. That, and the fact that years ago my first female Doberman decided to disembowel the cushions on a brand-new couch shortly after I bought it.

I also use the huge drop cloth and then a very cheap king size blanket on top of that. I have to reset it sometimes and wash the blanket regularily but it mostly works. If I could keep the cats from shredding the side of the couch it would be in fine shape despite being a dog jungle gym and sleeping spot most days.

Trust me—these are miracle workers! And barely noticeable.

I used these as well, when they were closer to white instead of the weird beige/brown colour that seems to be about all I can find now. They lasted a very long time!
