I’m just curious…do people still ride in them or is their 15 minutes of fame up? I’ve been trying so hard to sell mine so I can buy another saddle but no one is interested. I have it up on Facebook and craigslist for a long time now but no interest. So I’m wondering if anyone still uses them?
My “starter” dressage saddle was a Wintec Isabell. It held its value beautifully - I sold it a few years later at the same price I purchased it for used.
Trying to sell one now for my BO - zero inquiries. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
The problem is that they’re so affordable new, that why would someone pay for a used one when they can get a new one with stirrup leathers and all the gullet plates thrown in for a few hundred more?
Add in that they don’t fit a lot of horses and a lot of instructors are really biased against them and they’re not an easy sell.
Thorowgoods tend to go in a hot second, though.
we bought our Wintec western trail saddles over twenty years ago, nothing has ever broken on any of the four which have had tens of thousands of trail miles on them.
Yes they are cheap, I believe we paid about $300 each complete, we had a choice of trees also… which would not be the case in a used saddle, it is either right or its is wrong
I had good luck selling mine last fall on CL. Found out there is someone down the road from me who actually rides english occasionally too. We’re in the middle of western country (mostly barrel racing and cow horses) so I was pleasantly surprised. I still see a lot of them being bought and sold on facebook too. Have you tried one of those tack trader groups?
Yep I have it advertised on several fb sites. I’m about to put it up on Tack Trader.
They sell well here, but I agree, they have to be priced well to have it make sense to buy used vs new. I think it also helps if you have the gullet kit to include in the sale.
I love the old original Wintec for starting babies, light, well balanaced and tend to fit an undeveloped back. So much so, that when I sold mine with a horse, I searched high and low for another. Scored one for 50 bucks at a consignment shop.
Oh my gosh, I think they are more popular than ever. The stigma definitely seems to be lessening IMO. And considering synthetic materials do not last as long as leather, I think they hold their value decently.
I’m getting ready to sell my Wintec isabell. Any ideas on pricing?
The Isabelle will sell better than mine. I looked around on Ebay, Craigslist, Facebook, etc to price mine. Mine is nearly new (used maybe 10 times) with the gullet plates and can’t get anyone interested at $300…

Don’t give up, my BO just bought a wintec c/c for $250 and had to buy the gullet plates separate. That’s a good price, just try to market it more. Get quotes on shipping if you haven’t already. She bought hers out of state and had the seller ship it. Might just not have a local market for it where you are…
I sold my Wintec dressage on Horseclicks a few years ago, went extremely quickly.
What model are you trying to sell?
