Both are AQHA. foal was never registered but sire would have been 26 and Dam would have been 24? Is it standard practice to breed 2 horses that are that old?
Unless people have reported the deaths in some fashion, or the horses are famous, not really.
Stallions breed until people stop breeding them or until they die, so while 26 is old, it’s not unheard of.
same with the dam. I knew many pony breeders growing up who bred mares into their 20s.
it all depends on the health of the horses involved.
In Saddlebreds, the born in 1940 mare Anacacho Trail’s last foal, A Special Event was born in 1974…
Her sire Edna May’s King was born 1918, so he sired her at 21. His last foal was born when he was 25.
He sired Anacacho Shamrock, who sired foals at age 27.
Shamrock sired WGC Wing Commander, who sired foals at age 25.
His full sister WGC Dream Waltz’s last foal was foaled when she was 22.
Long before AI or Frozen semen.
It’s maybe not standard, but definitely not uncommon.
Is this about validating whether that stallion and dam could have been the parents? Is the timing of things such that they would have been DNA’d, therefore you could run the foal’s DNA against theirs?
