Is there a website for used hunt apparel?

I went on my first hunt a couple weeks ago and I am looking forward to going again soon but I am worried about freezing my ass off. I was plenty cold last time with a sweater on under my show shirt and light summer show coat and the season is advancing .

Most of the ladies had these nice heavy black wool jackets as that looked super toasty as well as sharp , my internet search has found them $400 and up up up, I tried really hard but couldn’t quite talk myself into spending that kind of money right before Xmas.

Specific challenges include my being very tall and located in Canada.

go to Middleburg Tack Exchange after you have found several in different brands that fit you in a local store. MTE typically has a lot of great used hunting clothes but they are not listed on their website (saddles are).

Try eBay. I have found some great deals there with sandwich cases and hunt whips. I found a pair of Custom Brown Field Boots for $200 that fit me perfectly. It did take over 2 years to find them though

The standard wool material used in the classic woman’s black hunt coat is called Melton. It’s very tightly woven and feels much like felt. It’s virtually waterproof and very warm.

Middleburg Tack Exchange is in Virginia. I know that–at least in the US–you can call and have them ship consignment items for you to try. It does require a credit card on file and you pay shipping (both ways if you don’t purchase). If you go that route, it helps to have measurements of a coat that fits you well so you can have them measure rather than just hoping the sizing runs true. They’ve been very good about accurate descriptions and measurements.

There are also a couple of hunting apparel-specific groups on Facebook. You’ll probably net more results by posting a ‘wanted’ ad rather than waiting for someone to post an item you want.

If you can wear a men’s coat, they tend to run longer. Tall woman’s hunt clothes are like finding a unicorn.

Look and see if you can find one of the Ovation Melton’s they run a little over $200. I got mine at Horseman’s Outlet in NJ a few years ago but I knew my size to order over the internet. My husband got his at Middleburg Tack Exchange, as I had no idea what size anything he needed we made a vacation out of a shopping trip in order to have lots of options.

LetItBe

Also try Horseloverz, we got 2 there at a very good price.

eBay is a great place to start if you have time! I found my melton there for $27!!!

The Hunting Shop LTD is in England, but the prices are very reasonable and they are VERY helpful with sizing, etc. I found a tweed jacket and vest at prices lower (shipped) than I could find locally. http://thehuntingshop.co.uk/

I wish MTE had consignment stuff actually posted online. Or am I looking at their website wrong?
I sure miss The Old Habit and wish another consignment list website would come up.

You might want to visit http://thehuntingshop.co.uk/ They usually have a great selection of used attire; some of which is bespoke and from the best tailors in the UK. (still affordable)

I purchased a used beagling frock from them and was very pleased with the price and the exceptional quality of the frock. I’m not sure how customs/duty work since you are in Canada. But the company is very easy to work with and if you are looking for something in particular, they will keep an eye out for it and let you know when/if it comes in.

There is also UnderArmour. https://www.underarmour.com/en-us/ I received a set as a gift a few years ago and really like them.

Another vote The Hunting Shop. I looked at their stock at the Peterborough Festival of Hunting this year and it is all good quality and good prices. Friendly and helpful staff.

Thanks all for the great suggestions , I am off to search!

I sold all my stuff on there within days.

I’ve tried just listing the few things I have on FB, but I think it’s such a relatively small subset of people that the items probably get lost in the larger “english tack” encompassing groups. Sigh. I have a brand new with tags men’s heavyweight melton just sitting here!

asb_own_me, go check out the group Equibrit posted. It’s just for that small subset!

Shires makes a lovely (affordable) melton coat, they are available on a few websites here in the US, and i’m sure in Canada as well. And of course, search ebay.co.uk–usually the sellers are willing to ship worldwide at your expense.

http://www.shiresequestrian.com/ you can buy direct in the USA
