I’ve been wondering how he’s doing since his second surgery.
A tweet from David Redvers on 8/8:
“Beyond happy to report that #RoaringLion returned home to
@CambridgeStudtoday. 12 days after he initially became ill. In awe of the job done by everyone to save him and the courage of the horse himself. Not out of the woods yet but can see the tree line. #welcome home champ”
There’s also a video of him walking quite comfortable back to his barn.

IMO, he has a long road still left to go but encouraging that he’s back at Cambridge Stud and out of the hospital.
I get the rollercoaster as the owner of a mare who had 2 colic surgeries within 48 hours including a 2.5cm small intestine resection. Yup, she finally went home and lived another 12ish years until I lost her from the ‘infirmities of old age’.
That’s great news he is home! Hope is recovery continues upwards from here.

On, IIRC, H&H, they said he had lost 25% of his small intestine. This sounds remarkably like torsion colic in dogs.

There were two adhesions from the first operation compromising a length of small intestine and they were removed.
Adhesions can be a complication of equine intestinal surgery. Sounds like it was caught and addressed quickly.
From Cambridge Stud’s most recent update (Aug 9).
While Roaring Lion’s condition would be described as fragile, due to the two surgeries and resulting weight loss, he is clinically in good shape. Bright, alert and eating well. His recovery is being monitored 24 hours a day and he has done well since his return to Cambridge.
Cambridge Stud will continue updates on Roaring Lion until his departure in December.
As tough as he is, I will be very surprised if he’s healthy enough to fly back to Europe before the northern hemisphere breeding season.
We’re still 5-6 months away. If things continue to go well, I’d expect him to be able to manage a plane trip after that much time. As for the breeding season itself, maybe, maybe not.

“Roaring Lion recovery continues @CambridgeStud. Amazing to think it was a year ago today that he won the @JuddmonteFarms International Gr1 @yorkracecourse. His appetite has returned and he seems just like his old self. Thank you to Rob, Marcus and all the team.”

He was euthanized following yet another colic episode.
I hate colic…
I was so hoping he make a successful comeback.
Feel so bad for his connections as well as his surgical care team.

I know my mare after her second colic surgery following a very small resection of small intestine first surgery was given just a 10% chance of going home. She was at the hospital for 4 weeks :eek:
Oh no. What terrible news. I am gutted. 
Haven’t see where anything was said but wonder if it was adhesions. Adhesions are such post-surgery “killers” IMO.
Saw it yesterday such awful news. I was really thinking he might make it after all 😢
Whatever it was, it had to have been really bad for the vets to only do an ultrasound before deciding to euth.
