Is there any way to set it the system to DISMISS a notification once you’ve read all new posts on that thread? The old version of COTH worked that way, once you read a thread it only showed up in your user settings if something new was added after you had read the thread.
The system has been fixed so that notifications are now automatically dismissed when you visit the thread through the notification.
Thanks for your patience!
Actually, I DON’T like the auto-dismiss feature.
Could there be a selector switch to auto-dismiss or not? I posted the question about Merial promotion and a poster replied with a link to check on status. I’m having a hard time finding that post again to click on the link and was hoping to keep the Notification as a “bookmark” until I get my promotion check. But now if I look at the link, the Notification goes Poof!!!.
Of course, I know I could bookmark the link in my favorites, but i thought others might want the choice of whether to auto dismiss or not.
But, first world problem. I will survive…but though I would register opinion.
I don’t think that’s an option as a setting. You could elect to have a daily email sent to you for your notifications, then you could use that as a reference to look back upon if you want to find something that had been dismissed.
I admit I’m in the same boat as @pluvinel. I don’t care a whole lot one way or the other, but I liked that they persisted until dismissed. Now they also go away if you just get to that thread some other way.
pluvinel, you have seen the “filter” option to go see dismissed notifications, though, right? Not a super elegant or sexy solution, but you can sort and filter and dig back through them. For me, the filter option is hidden behind the header bar on a computer–make your window narrower to pop it out.
This just happened…If you click anywhere, on any page, in the thread that triggered a notification, the notification goes away. You don’t necessarily have to go to the post that triggered the notification.
Example…I saw that I had “Notifications”…but decided to look at them later after I had skimmed a few topics. So I went thru and read thru a couple of threads of interest and when I decided to got back and retrieve the notifications…Poof! the Notifications were gone.
So, for me, Auto-dismiss is a very crummy feature.
@Simkie Thanks for the heads up re: the formatting issue with the Notifications filter. I just sent some screen shots and an explanation to the developer to get that fixed.
Having easy access to that should help address the issues with losing dismissed notifications.
