Is There Such A Rein, And Where Do I Find It?

We have a girl at our barn who has a mis-formed arm and hand. Her hand has limited use and is sort of lobster-claw shaped. She does children’s hunter. GREAT horse, but, because of her limited ability with the arm, her horse can be off-balance. Are there any sets of reins we can suggest to her that might have some give in them - bungie-like? Even like a bungie beginning with leather afterward - if you know what I mean; my brain is fried right now.

Thanks!

Plus, coach reins might help? Or bridging reins? Coach reins available at Libertyville… bridging reins I just saw at… DE maybe?

I can find links if you think they might help.

I have little elastic thingies with a clip on one end, a ring on the other. About 4" long. I have NO idea what they are called, or where I got them, but I use them a LOT for special students. You should be able to make some with black bungie a halter ring and snap…

These are similar to coach reins, but different…

and these are like a fancy version of what I have

Mine is JUST elastic, but in your case, using just the one might make things more even too?

And just because they are a beeyatch to try to find, and I am trying to kill the last 1/2 hour of my shift… here are the Libertyville Coach Reins:

I don’t know if this will work–I think it will be tiny, but this shows how they work: http://www.saddleshop.com/thumbs/03-2842.gif

Thank you SOOOO much!! I will forward these links to the trainer

I just found something really similar to what I have… thought I’d add it to this post for reference…

I use mine (a pair) for lots of things, from adding to sidereins, to having the rider hold the elastic just below the ring, along with the reins, to help with elbow stability…

Really, I use it all the time, for all sorts of different uses.

Check out Lizzy Traband, was just reading about her on the H/J forum. She is missing her right forearm but rides in the Hunters (she is around 11 I guess??)
