Really, you’re best off adding a separate layer, either thermals, Under Armor, fleece tights, etc.[/QUOTE]
Cuddlduds ROCK!
A key to keeping warm is sealing off “the openings”.
Flannel lined jeans that are not tight against the ankle are going to let out a lot of heat / let in drafts. I much prefer thin leggings that are tucked into socks, and an undershirt also tucked into the leggings. Then normal clothes on top of that. The air trapped between your leggings and the jeans will become warm and is a great insulator, too. That’s another thing you are missing with regular lined pants.
I rarely do jeans though-- they’re really pretty useless in terms of keeping warm (but I’m looking from my perspective, where we have bitter cold winters). Anyway for warmth I much prefer fleece tights or winter breeches that are a relaxed fit and go easily over the leggings.
I think it all depends on the figure you are starting out with before you buy the jeans. I have several pair of flannel lined jeans LL Bean, Wrangler and something else. I like the LL Bean the best ( warmth, flattering, comfort) and I ride in mine too.

None of the “cotton is cold”…very toasty.

Fleece is the way to go. Very warm.
They look and fit just like normal bluejeans.
No, there isn’t, and they are ALL sized weird.
I tried a pair, I think the LL Bean flannel lined BF fit. YUCK!! First of all, getting my normal size, they were huge. I sent them back for the next size down. YUCK!! So unflattering, I mean, I wouldn’t run into 7-11 on my way to the barn wearing these things. The little rolled cuff on the model hides the tiny ass little ankle, the hips are huge, the thigh is baggy, the waist was high, and it made MY bubble butt look flat. How, I dunno, but it did. And I have a very round butt.
I wear jeans when it’s cold, or breeches under jeans, or my Kerrits winter breeches, or I just bloody don’t go out. But I already look dumpy enough in the winter without wearing what amounts to the most horrible pair of Mom jeans that even Moms wouldn’t be caught dead in.
No!
I agree with Renae - go with fleece-lined jeans if you must.
My preference is thermal leggings under sweatpants for chores, under winter-weight breeches for riding.
I have a 15yo+ pair of Patagonia breeches that are incredibly warm, lightweight & made just like standard pull-on breeches with synthetic knee-patches.
They are just starting to show some wear - some pinholes from snagging on something - but if Patagonia still makes them I’d buy these
I’ve been doing the leggings under whatever else I am wearing thing, but when one layer migrates either up or down, and the other layer doesn’t necessarily, it becomes awkward.
I like the idea of fleece lined jeans more. Did not know that that was a thing, although how I missed them on the LL Bean page I really don’t know.
I should qualify that part of “flattering” to me is also “comfortable”- something that fits well enough to look good on me also fits well enough that I can comfortably work in it. A rise that puts the top seam of the jeans just under my bra is neither attractive nor comfortable. And that is probably why I missed the fleece jeans on the LL Bean page.
Looks like the bottom line is that I need to figure out where I got the one pair of cozy leggings that does not migrate, and buy a million more before they are discontinued.
Pajama jeans… hangs head low. Not the most stylish but psuedo tights… I can’t believe I just admitted this in public…
I never worried about stylish when it came to being warm. Just bundle up and wait until spring to show off your hot body.
I wear LL Beans lined jeans all winter - but not riding. Used to wear turtlenecks and fleece tops/sweatshirts with a jacket. But I’d get too sweaty. So started wearing non-sweat long underwear from Jockey, found in their outlet stores - $15 each. Made a BIG difference. So this year I’m looking for similar bottoms.
Otherwise, I wear plain jeans and long chaps. And paid $$$ for winter socks at a tack shop, but well worth it. Oh, and was lucky enough to find a pair of winter Ariat paddock boots on sale last year. Also worth it.
Staying dry underneath is half the battle, and for me, the lined jeans just don’t do it.
With the migrating underlayer problem, try to find slippery long underwear. I don’t know what the brand is, but Mom picked me up ones from Kohl’s last year that are thin and stretchy and the topside is slippery, my jeans glide right over them and they stay in place nicely. I can see how the textured thermals or tights would ride up…
