Is this normal on my horses coronet band? He has it on the front and back of his hoof on the coronet band. I’m assuming it’s from moisture, since it started after heavy rain we’ve been having the past month. I’m just not sure if there’s something I should be putting on it. I was thinking desitin or cornona ointment, but then though it’s better for it to breathe maybe, especially since it’s on the coronet band maybe?

I wouldn’t put anything on there that’ll keep it moist. It looks macerated.

Maybe a little chlorhex spray every day and observe. And make sure he’s got a nice dry place to stand as much as you can.

Or perhaps Coat Defense Powder would do the trick? Soothing and a drying barrier against fungus and bacteria…

Yes, looks fairly normal for a chronically wet foot. I know the rain you’re referring to, here also, and this pops up on 1 or more horses, on 1 or more feet, fairly often.

That’s not really the coronet band though, it’s the heel bulb, at least the lower one, the top one might be more or less at the coronet back there. Either way, desitin/zinc oxide isn’t a bad idea if you apply once it’s dry enough, it’ll help dry it out and keep some excess moisture off. It just doesn’t stay terribly long though, if he’s walking around grass long enough

Just keep an eye on it, usually these clear up quickly once the foot starts drying out long enough
