Is this pedigree as nice as I think it is?

Don’t need another horse, don’t need another horse. Don’t need another horse…

I saw her FB ad last night and was mightily tempted. Yes, I would be all over that if I could afford another one!

IMO, no. Caro is nice and Broad Brush is nice. Beyond those two, you have a pedigree in which any close lines to horses that have produced sport horses with a jump are notable by their “fewness”.

Gulch, through all his grandget has 1 3* horse and two 4* horses, of which Clifton Pinot is the best–and these come from stallion sons. They are all from different sons, though.

Pulpit has, as far as I can discover, none. You would think that after twenty years, some of his sons and daughters would have produced horses that went into sport.

Cozzene is far from one of Caro’s best sons for sport. If you want Caro, you are far better off looking for a With Approval. Although I am extremely fond of Cozzene’s son, Running Stag, he has an exemplary dam line which, IMO, Jiggs Coz does not.

I suggest that you do a google search at the FEI using Peaches’ method for the FEI:

Enter into the search bar:
site:https://data.fei.org/ “horse name”
The quotation marks around the horse’s name is essential. This isn’t going to address misspelling (Reputed Testamony vs Reputed Testimony) and if you search for a very successful horse, you’ll get pages of rider and show results, not just the horse detail page.

For USEA and USEF, I currently have to search the database myself.

I have had some luck with the string trying it with usef.org instead of data.fei.org.

Thanks Viney. The mare moves well but is just off the track, so jumping is unknown

I like it - I think you’d have an solid eventer with that pedigree. I like Grey Dawn up close and damside, but that’s further back in her pedigree.

I would look at her as an individual first. IME, Pulpit is not my favorite line to get AP Indy from, but I have liked a few of his kids… they tend to have more of a racehorse structure and lower baseline, at least in my opinion - but they also tend to be decent movers… their personalities, however, are wildly inconsistent. I personally like Golden Missile better for delivering AP Indy’s better traits (which are excellent rideability, good movement, and amateur friendly brains).

Message if you want some owner leads

I love this pedigree. Regarding her bottom line: you won’t see many Pulpit mares around because they’re too valuable. Ginger Gold, her granddam won over a million dollars. She had to be athletic and speedy to do that. Regarding her top line: I remember Jonathan Sheppard saying he always liked to see Broad Brush in steeplechase horses (I worked for him way back in time). All the Cozzenes I’ve seen were lovely movers and jumped well. So if this mare reflects her recent bloodlines she should be athletic. She looks nice.

But don’t get her! I have you picked out for my Artax mare should you decide you can squeeze in another horse. Although actually parting with any of my horses seems to be impossible : )

I love the horses you breed and the mares you choose. This one looks just like your type.

Thank you! I seem to like a type, that’s for sure. I ended up not getting her - I loved her pedigree and her type, but her neck was a little short , she was slightly downhill , esp at the canter and she had a pretty big bump on her ankle which made her not quite worth the price I wanted to pay for a broodmare. Told the seller to contact me if she failed a vetting… I really don’t need another mare to breed - trying to cut back and all that… Hopefully, she’ll find a good place to land

I completely disagree with Vineyard…Sorry…But I have had fabulous Pulpits…I remember one in particular had a 4* Rider stalking him all, over Aiken years ago trying to buy the horse…Broad Brush made good boned sound minded althletic jumping horses…Cozzene s are desired for movement and mind…Just because they aren t 4* producers does not mean they don t generate GOOD Sports horses…not everyone is looking to breed or compete 2*~4*…rideability soundness good feet and mind …Look at the hirse in front of you FIRST…then look at the pedigree…Yes I look at pedigree when evaluating a re sale horse…but it’s not going to prevent me from buying a hirse if it’s correct sound good minded and moves well…unless I want to breed an eventing dynasty…

Ok so now you know the world is ending…Pat and I agree on something.

I completely agree that the number of upper level FEI Eventing get is a tough and not reliable way to judge the breeding of a Tb. I know we all know this but as very few Tb’s are purpose bred for sport it’s not like Cozzene, Broad Brush or hell many Tb’s ever got a full crop of sport horse broodies instead of stakes winners, producers or well matched mates for racing. So it’s not the best way to evaluate a pedigree.

I adore my gelding out of a Cozzene mare. His dam produced 2 fillies who are both Stakes horses. The boys however were steady runners but not elite level competitors. So they’re all sport horses. Ironically Pat sold one who is now in California with a new owner and I have mine and a friend in Tn has the oldest one. They’re all very talented and the commonality is the Cozzene mare and the influence of Primal Force in the sire lines.

I know many talented Cozzene’s and I would never pass one up that tickled my fancy and vetted well. They have fantastic brains and are a true force in athletic prowess.

But I DO want to breed an eventing dynasty…
