Is "wrong forum" a legit reason to flag a post?

I realize threads drift, but occasionally somebody starts a thread that’s either in the completely wrong equine-related section or sometimes completely off-topic (and not in Off Topic). Is flagging stuff like that (to get it moved) within the bounds of what the moderators have cope for?

Yeah, I’ve done that when it’s egregious. The mods move them to the right forum. Or delete if it’s just waaaaaaay off the rails.

I’ve done it too and wondered the same thing. Sometimes, I don’t do it because I don’t know if I’m posting something too trivial which is a waste of time for the moderators. I hope the mods respond to this one.

I usually tag the Mods in a post rather than use the flag function to get a thread moved.

Absolutely, that’s a totally fine use of the alert function, whether it’s for your own thread you accidentally posted in the wrong forum, or for someone else’s that clearly fits somewhere else.

It’s not unusual to get OT topics mistakenly started in Off Course, for example. Or for general pet posts to go in OT instead of The Menagerie (not a big deal, but we’re happy to keep things tidied up!)

That’s at least a clear-cut decision that we don’t have to weigh the pros and cons of!

Thanks for checking!
