ISO Barn in Frederick, MD Area

Hi everyone! I’m a newly graduated professional relocating to the Frederick, Maryland area and looking to get back into riding after an extended break during school. I am currently horseless; I plan to wait a bit before considering leases and probably longer before thinking about buying.

I’m hoping to find a friendly, drama-free barn with safe, quality school horses suitable for an experienced rider who’s just a bit rusty. Ideally, the barn would have a supportive community of primarily working adults and be actively (and successfully!) involved in the local show scene.

Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Do you have any idea where in Frederick you’ll be? Like in the city, or if you’ll be out in the county, which part of it?

I suspect that you’ll have the best luck heading south to Montgomery County and looking into barns in Dickerson or Poolesville. I’m on the eastern end of the county and at this point I know more about barns in Carroll County than I do in Frederick. But I definitely have opinions, I just don’t know much about barns closer to Frederick or in other parts of the county.

That said, if you’re on facebook, I’d recommend joining the Frederick County Equestrian group and asking there, potentially also joining Maryland Horse Network.

Oh, maybe check out Highgarden Farm with Justine Jarvis? I don’t know if they have lesson horses, but I’m also sort of searching for a new barn since my old one just moved, and my instructor recommended Highgarden to me today, but I have no personal knowledge about them.
