ISO dressage bridle

Hello! I just purchased a lovely rolled leather crank caveson patent bridle but alas it is too big for my potato and I am not a huge crank fan. Lovely bridle but it adjusts on the crown and there isn’t room for more holes. Picture of potato included. I need something in a cob/smaller cob.

Any suggestions on budget bridles needs to be under $150? Picture of potato included.

They aren’t anything fancy, but I’ve been pretty happy with the bridle I got from BridlesandReins.com. They run lots of sales so you can get a bridle for something in the $70-ish ballpark range on the regular.

The leather isn’t buttery soft or totally beautiful, but they have lots of options in just about any color (and tons of pretty browbands!!).

Any other suggestions?

I have stamped “Arab-Sized” Passier I would be happy to give you if you think it would fit and pay shipping. I can measure it if you are interested first. My understanding is this size is between PS and CS.

It did not fit my large cob (pictured). It was a gift from a boarder after her large pony passed.

I think Solo just introduced a simple no-crank snaffle bridle. You may want to take a look as their bridles are affordable and decent for the price! The owner is also awesome to work with, so if you aren’t sure about sizing - he’ll help you out.

Thanks! I just missed out on one being a procrastinator so I might have to buy one new.

I really like the way my Lumiere bridle fits my cob sized Arabian. When I was looking, the best price was on Amazon. If you look at some of the models, different sizes are even cheaper and within your budget. They definitely have non-crank options too.

I had just wanted one without a crank and with rolled cheeks for my refined horse and it thankfully checked my boxes.

I just purchased a Solo bridle and am waiting for it to come. The rolled model. I took the measurements and sent Stephen some measurements with the tape on my horse’s face and asked for his opinion. He was “on it”. I hope to get it in a day or two.

I’m very much a fan of a crank, which doesn’t need to be “cranked”. It distributes pressure equally along the surface of the bridle under the jaw. That’s most comfortable for horses. I wanted a crank for this very reason. I don’t excessively tighten it, I’m interested in my horse’s comfort.

Solo 100%. Hands down the best customer service you will find. With exchange rate the prices are great for US buyers. And the leather is so soft and supple now that they have switched to Italian leather.

Count me as one who likes a “crank” for the even pressure distribution as long it’s not actually cranked, but I love that Solo makes a traditional, crank and dropped noseband so there’s something for everyone

If you order it from overseas, you can get a PassierBlu Spirit bridle for around $150. It has a very nicely contoured crownpiece and no crank (though I agree and studies show they’re more comfortable, assuming they’re not actually cranked). My 15.3 bay TB wears a black cob-size and my 16.1ish chestnut Hanoverian wears a brown horse-size:

I bought a bridle from them and never again. They ship from India, and will not pay return shipping, so you can’t exchange or return. I bought the mid-range bridle and it was so cheap and awful. Looked like plastic and would not take oil.

I just saw that Eponia is running a sale on their in-stock inventory (likely clearing out for new models for new year) and there are multiple bridles for sale that are at or below $200. I really like my Ginger bridle from them and have talked about it on this forum.

It looks like the sale prices are already plugged in, no code at checkout required:

At $161, the Violet Waters was too good a deal to pass up and I bought one for my filly. I’ve been needing a show bridle for her anyway. Look for us in 2023 trotting down the center line.
