ISO Fabriano or Werther

Hi,

I’m late to the game this year in terms of planning but I’m hoping to breed my mare to either Fabriano or Werther. I can’t locate their semen in stock anywhere except for Celle and to get it from them is going to be a nightmare (ie: import license, cost of shipping, container, etc.). Was hoping someone here has some spare straws they’ve kept professionallyy stored and are willing to part with. Please let me know. You can reach me directly at: scarlett_trinity@att.net

Thanks!

These stallions were fairly popular stallions 15 years ago. There has to be frozen from them buried in breeders’ tanks somewhere.

You could also contact a semen broker like Superior Sires and get her to add a couple of doses of Fabriano to her next shipment from Celle.

But more importantly… the sire is just part of the equation. Your choice of dam is just as important for imparting talent and athleticism… Even more important than the sire (Fabriano semen was very good) when you consider that unknown fertility could cost you thousands with no foal to show for it.

SES still has Werther listed on her stallion roster. It’s not expensive, and likely has been in storage at Celle for some time. I’m not sure that means much of anything in relation to semen quality… but is something to be aware of.

I didn’t read the other post carefully… but … be aware of WFFS. Have your mare tested. I don’t know what Werther’s status is, and to my knowledge, it hasn’t been published, but Wolkenstein II is a carrier, and Wendekreis was his dam sire. He has G line in his pedigree too though, and some of the G line stallions are carriers. So maybe that’s the source. Whatever the case… make sure you look into this issue and get your mare tested before pursuing breeding with older unknown frozen semen like this.

Also, given the affordability of the Werhter doses, and their age, if I were in your shoes, I’d consider buying a dose or two of another option as well. If it’s all coming from Celle via SES, there are other good options with more info concerning semen quality and recent usage

FWIW though - I like a lot of the old stallions and the prices are affordable, and I debate the idea of creating a keeper from something old fashioned regularly. I enjoy looking at the stallion info, and it’s fun to think about. My fixation is more on the G line stallions though.

Just noticed SES carries Fabriano as well. I’d choose him in your shoes. But it seems like his WFFS status is unknown as well and I would recommend mare testing for him too.

Hi All! I’ve reached out to Superior Sires but she doesn’t have any in stock and so far, isn’t planning on doing another order until next year. She informed me that to do a custom order would cost ~$2000. When I spoke with Celle directly, they said I need to pay for the container, shipping, and I would need an import license and it would cost more to import than it’s worth and I would be better off dealing with a broker. Even the supplier in Canada doesn’t have any and Celle told me they shipped some Werther to Canada. So, yeah… That’s why I’m trying on here. Thanks!

Thanks for the follow up. No shipments until next year makes sense. This virus situation has everyone nervous, and though I didn’t read the other thread on the topic, I’d imagine that even the commercial breeders are making careful, conservative decisions this season.

I’m an adult ammy owner, breeder and rider. So I research the heck out of everything, but punt decisions on breeding or not breeding routinely. I have multiple happy, keeper pasture puffs. And that’s ok. Breeding is a gamble, and if you are choosing to go for something that is not readily marketable as a foal (an older Hanoverian cross like this qualifies)… take your time. As long as the mare can wait a season, researching details and asking lots of questions and double checking registration and approval questions (if there are any) - All of that is worthwhile

We have some Fabriano in the tank. Not sure where you are located but we may be willing to part with it

@monami I didn’t get a notification until now but I would definitely be interested if what I have doesn’t take. I managed to find some but I might need some backup. I’m in California. Can I keep you posted?
