ISO Noseband - Ovation

Several years ago Ovation made a wicket and craig american leather bridle line that was beautiful. It was the same quality leather as edgewood but for about 100/bridle. I have a figure 8 bridle that I’d like to find a matching plain noseband for.

I have been unable to figure out if Ovation still makes these bridles and if so where I could find a noseband for it.

Any ideas?

I needed to Franken-bridle an Ovation for my hunter, and I emailed the Just Bridles owner to see what she had in stock still. She technically isn’t still in business but she still has limited stock. She didn’t have the pieces I needed in the sizes I needed, but was able to off the suggestions. She might be a good start!

Ovation still makes the W&C, check out their line at Dover, I know they just launched a new line w/ them that includes a much needed “refined” dressage bridle (!!!)… Very good price point. You could place an inquiry with them to see if they can get it… if the manufacturer still makes it, they can.

ETA: Found it:

They can definitely get you just the noseband, but you have to special order it.

Unfortunately neither of those are what I’m looking for. The line they used to have was literally the same leather as edgewood. Hazelnut colored that oiled beautifully.

Maybe they just don’t make it anymore, which is a shame.

I’m not sure what you mean - if it’s wickett and craig it’s wickett and craig – is it just the color you want? It might be worth your time to place an inquiry with Dover.

if it is worth anything, I’ve never found Edgewood to be worth the price when you consider the quality… all of my Edgewood strapgoods have been on par with Pessoa leather.

I do vaguely recall some talk a while back about higher quality Ovation tack but I never saw it in person. I ordered one and the leather was NOT nice, so I sold it on. OP do you remember the name of the “line”? That might help?!

I have the same Ovation F8 with the leather that looks just like Edgewood. It is maybe 7-8 years old now?
Still beautiful. Looks nothing like what Ovation is currently selling.
I would actually love to get a matching standard nose band for it also.
Good luck!

Ovation’s website shows no nosebands sold separately at all that are traditional style. The only separate ones are figure 8, lever, etc.

According to the Ovation website, this is Wickett & Craig leather as well?

I think this is the bridle I’m looking for (or nose band, but for 140, I’d buy the whole bridle).

They don’t have it on the ovation website and I can’t actually buy it from that store.

Is this the same?

Sounds like you have the same one I do. It’s lovely.

I have one of those older Ovation bridles in the hazelnut leather too, and love it! Unfortunately, I don’t think they’re made in that color anymore. It seems that most bridle companies have quit making bridles in lighter or medium colors in favor of the very dark havana, which is a shame since I personally prefer the lighter and medium, or at least a bridle that’s been oiled dark rather than dyed that way (the color always seems richer). I also loved Ovation’s oakbark tack and have a very nice pair of stirrup leathers that don’t seem to be made anymore, either.

All I can think of is to try looking for Pessoa or HK Americana in the same color, thought that seems to be hard to find as well. My HK Americana bridle is nearly identical in quality to my hazelnut Ovation, and IIRC Pessoa is a very similar quality. I’m not sure if you’d be able to find just the noseband, though I swear I’ve seen Americana bridle parts around.

Edit: Sorry, didn’t realize this was an old thread!

At least for me with this new format it’s much harder to tell when a thread is a zombie (especially on iphone)
