Hey guys! I’m looking for a link to the video of the little boy (looks to be about 6?) schooling around an indoor on a big grey. Think it’s in Europe. Amazing to watch (what a good horse who knows his job!) but kind of scary too because his feet barely come past the bottom of the saddle flaps. I’ve searched here and on YouTube and I can’t find it. TIA everybody!

Awhile back this video was posted on another site I lurk on. It was theorized that the rider is actually a adult with dwarfism, not a small child. Apparently some viewers did not think the rider had the correct body proportions to be a child and felt it was rather unbelievealbe that I child would posesss the body strength to jump like that. I am curious to see what people here say.

Soooo… it’s more believable that the horse in that video is being ridden by a dwarf than by a kid with lots of guts on a saint of a horse?

(Personally I think it looks like a child. I went through three years of high school with a little person, and they are not usually proportioned like the rider in this video.)

I wasn’t saying I agreed with the idea, just found it interesting. But, there are multiple types of dwarfism that can make a person proportioned differently. It would not be impossible for someone with dwarfism to ride a horse. I believe the thinking behind this theory, like I said, was that a child – no matter how brave – would not have the strength and motor control to ride over fences that high.
I don’t really have a set opinion on the whole thing. I think either story is believeable.
He definitely looks like a kid who was practically born riding. He’s probably a bit older than he looks (maybe small for his age), but I can’t imagine anything other than that. I would love to know the backstory.
I would say it’s a child. Probably small for his age and a little older than his size would indicate-- but a child and not an adult with a growth issue. Super horse. With an indoor that small and only two jumps I am not sure how much steering you need to do on a very made horse familiar with the indoor who knows the drill?! I mean, yes you need some motor skills but less than if it was a bigger area and there were lots more options. Looks like a delightful horse whose attitude is “just show me which one” and then takes you. LOVELY horse!
What is with people jumping big jumps in postage stamp size indoors. More power to them but that would BLOW my tiny mind!

Meh, not the point of the OP, but if it is actually of interest to anyone I thought I would throw in that skeletal dysplasia experts (that’s the more medical term for dwarfism) highly recommend that anyone with dwarfism not ride horses- due to their different center of balance and in many cases neck & spine instability- so it is actually more believable to me that an average child would have better strength and motor control than a dwarf.
Ask me how I know…DS is under a year old but has been diagnosed (or rather categorized) with a seemingly very rare form of skeletal dysplasia that doctors can’t quite put a name to yet. Silly me asks them “so will he be able to ride?”. Apparently the world reknowned physicians in this field at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children feel that the risks of riding for these kids are right up there with skydiving:(

It’s a fairly large horse so the child could easily be 8-10 imo. Considering the Jayne kids were doing full GP competitions by 12 it doesn’t seem like that much of a stretch. Kid looks like a natural with good instruction and the horse is a packer.

The other thing to keep in mind is that when you are that small your center of mass is different, and in general it is easier to control your body. A good example of this is if you think back to your reckless days as a youth where you would boldly gallop up to any jump bareback and have no difficulties staying on. Fast forward 15 - 20 years would you still be able to do that? I know that at 12 I would jump my pony bareback through a grid up to 3’6 with no difficulty. I am not confident that I would be able to repeat that feat at this point despite having advanced further up the competition levels. So I would say brave kid with good basics on a saint of a horse.
I know this is an old thread, but that video makes me think of a similar scene in Jilly Cooper’s Riders.
I have seen a trainer’s kids before (I can’t remember where he was from…possibly Colombia) who were very small, like this person in the video) on some really nice horses that were showing and they were just really good riders with really good horses. There was a boy and girl and they were about 8, 9 years old. We asked. :). Some kids are lucky and gifted.
The description at the bottom of the video says it is a 7yro Korean boy.
A short stirrup aged girl in pigtails and garters just did a hunter prix at a rated show and she rode pretty darn good. I don’t think the adorable factor hurt her either
I love the horse the boy is riding.
