We are looking to purchase a 4 Star trailer and like the A.S. Clean Coat finish. However, one dealer has told us that there have been issues with it peeling. He thinks it is about to be discontinued and won’t sell them. We have spoken to 4 Star and other dealers and they don’t seem to think this, but this one dealer is adamant and says the issue is unfixable if it happens. Does anyone know anything about the clean coat peeling? Thank you!

Does he have any on the lot with Clean Coat?
No, but he also doesn’t have the size trailer we are looking for. We would be ordering anyway. So he is not trying to sell us something he has on the lot. He won’t even order the Clean Coat.
I have one with the AS Clear Coat. 2019 trailer, purchased in mid 2018.
It bubbled and peeled (more like tunneled, looked like little worms working back under the clear coat) where anything was attached to the trailer - handles, latches, etc. I had the dealer look at it, and they put these cheesy pieces of plastic under the attachments, and then caulked around it. It had the issue only an inch or away from the attachment, it didn’t peel off in chunks or anything.
I am absolutely not happy with the quality of 4-Star for how much more I paid for it.
-Trailer built totally incorrectly the first time, doors over 2’ from where the drawing stated, and that made it out of their quality control (big big red flag)
-WERM floor bubbled, had to be repaired.
-Chest bar welds on the wall cracked, they claimed the bead hadn’t penetrated - where else do I have welds that didn’t penetrate? Who knows, guess I’ll find out the hard way.
-Divider pins would not drop - again, this made it past their quality control
-Slow leak in hydraulic jack seal ring, they will not fix it
-Can see the aluminum floor on the edges in some places - they state “this is normal”
-Brakes grab and act stupid all the time, no matter how I adjust them - not the truck, as this is the only trailer this happens with
-Rear ramp decals came off while driving down the road
4-Star sells because of their name, not for quality and safety anymore. I’d be looking entirely elsewhere if I were you. Eby comes to mind.
