I’m so sorry. Thanks for sharing about her story and her role with your family. She sounds like a wonderful girl and I am sure she will enjoy boundless amounts of sweet clover in heavenly meadows where she can frolic free of pain after she crosses the rainbow bridge.

Lucky are the ponies owned by compassionate people who make the tough but humane decisions on behalf of the pony.

Maggie went easy this morning. Our vet did a good job. She was put down in her favorite pasture. Our other two horses were turned out in the pasture to say goodbye and accept her death. They are not calling for her now. They know.
She has barely been eating since last weekend. All my tricks didn’t work this time. We hand grazed her even though all she could do is chew the grass and dribble it out. I gave her banamine to keep her as pain free as possible until our vet could come out today.
Maggie knew some tricks, like giving a kiss and shaking. She traded tricks for treats and focused on me while the sedative was given. I told her how good she was and how her old friends, Phoenix and Donkeyotee, will be there to greet her. She knew she was loved. I think that’s the best life a horse or pony can have. We like ribbons and awards. But I think the real meaningful life, to a horse, is simply to know that they were loved to the end.
Thank you all for your support. It’s great that there’s a place for horse people to go that understands the pain.
