It was a nice day

In the world or racing and the world of Thoroughbreds in general today.

All my horses are great, even the slow ones. But they are happy also. I have a couple of foals and one of them might be the next great one, possible eclipse winner. One can only hope.

Sorry for the boring thread and no disrespect intended but the “Business As Usual” was on the “front page” much too long today.

It certainly is a good week for dreams.
Glad your horses are good, and the foals looking to have potential - especially “the one”.

I love the update, gumtree!

It was a nice day here too. The 2yo filly galloped well in her first week at the track. The 3yo filly breezed, we’re looking for a stakes race next. The 3yo gelding is finally well again and will ship back to the track next week. And none of the foals has figured out how to auto-destruct yet.

I always love to hear that it was a nice day and nothing bad happened. We should be grateful for those days.

On this day in History - in this spot - Nothing Happened.

My two year old schooled the gate like it was no big thing. Maybe this one will actually make it to a race! Hope springs eternal!

FWIW, I love reading stories like this from those of you that are actually “in the business” whether breeding or bringing along youngsters with hopes of actually making it to a race or coming back after a layoff.

Reminds me that it isn’t all American Pharoah or Catch A Glimpse or Beholder  although hope springs eternal that you might have the next one…

I finally got to retire my racehorse. He’s an older claiming horse and my heart’s been in my throat every time he ran this year. Actually, that happens with every horse I run, but he’s extra special.

After breaking my thumb, fibula, talis, and clavicle racing this spring, I got on and galloped one today - sweet! Oh, and FWIW these injuries were all the result of “F”, not “LR”, so I’m not ashamed!

Now I know who you are. lol. What took you so long to heal up?

The “letters” may not be recognizable to a few, “F” is for fell, “LR” is for lost rider.

IMO nothing to be ashamed of in either case. Well, maybe if it happens a lot. Just getting on the horse speaks volumes to me of the riders skills and character.

And state of mind!!!

Oddly, it was not the fractures, but the soft tissue injury - OCD lesion of talis. Hurts like hell, but hopefully will get away without surgery. Fingers crossed!!!

I hear ya. I’ve had a number of crowd “pleasing falls”. In public and more so on the farm. Some caught on video the best were not sadly. Never broke anything that I know of. Pretty sure I broke/fractured my clavicle. But considering it heals pretty much on its own in most cases and having a high deductible I didn’t bother paying to have it x-rayed.

If my vet had to come by to take pictures of a horse I would have asked him to snap one as a favor. They’re done that on parts me when asked.

Hurts like a SOB for a while especially because I couldn’t exactly lay around and let it heal. I was almost completely good to go again until I had to load a particularly stubborn foal.

Torn my rotator cuff in a very undramatic fall. This takes forever to heal up. For me around a year before I could take off a T-Shirt without wincing.

Horses or humans, soft tissue injuries suck.

My little filly had a great boring day too. Got to do a long gallop thanks to finally getting some rain. Looking to do a more serious breeze in the next few weeks in company. Still just a neat horse who has a fabulous base of fitness now thanks to the fields and hills. Kicking along nicely. Will race someday…we’re all enjoying watching her grow, muscle up and get fit. Oh and she can jump… So that’s nice. I may hop on her myself this weekend.

Another good day. Went down to my mailbox and found my weekly edition of the Chronicle of the Horse, The Blood-Horse, Horse of the Del Valley and NO bills. Not even one horse related bill.

It’s nice to get a break/breather every once in a while.

It was a great day yesterday. After shipping back to the west coast, our four-year-old won for the first time since last year (he had a long injury layoff and then some close finishes out east) at Del Mar. Went literally last to first going away (“like an express train”, per Trevor Denman) despite it not being his best distance and breaking out of the one. Cooled out calm and with his ears up. And today was a good day for my retiree despite it being STUPID hot here–he got out while we were doing evening chores (went right past dad while dad was topping off his water) and visited the Corgis (“Hi, strange tiny horse!” “Hi, strange giant dog!”), and while he was out we figured he was damp and sweaty from the humidity, so we’d give him a hose down and a brace, which meant he got some extra grazing while he dried out.

I had a nice week. Win with 3, and my chronic shoulder horse breezed and stayed sound.

Mine has been on the shelf for a long time, had an excellent work yesterday and is being aimed at a race next Sunday.

For right now, anything is possible

It’s going to be a nice one for one of the horses and owners in the Pacific Classic today.

Not a fan of his connections, past and present. But I like the horse would like to see Cali Chrome get his picture taken.

Gumtree, you make me smile every time you add to this thread.

It’s been a month and the 2yo filly has acclimated well to the track. Had her first 2 works and will work again on Monday, weather permitting. Floats over the track in a way that–at this very early stage–makes anything seem possible. Easily outworks the 3yo gelding she breezes with. (Good news/bad news there, the gelding is also mine. )

The 3yo filly found her stakes race and ran 2nd for her first black type. Now having a breather during this miserable August weather. The 3yo gelding is slowly getting back into the swing of things. God, he’s gorgeous. If this career doesn’t work out, I have 3 people in line waiting for him.

Foals still all in one piece. Three yearings going to KeeSep. Wish the alphabet had treated me more kindly on placement, but at least I’m not tearing my hair out. (Yet.)
