HELP!!! I need potty training advice. I love her but can’t potty traintrain her what do I do
Iggies are known for being some of the harder dogs to house train, but it can be done.
We had one, a year old, came from a kennel, was not housebroken and we were warned it is very hard, but she learned right away.
What all have you tried?
We had a dog door we left the flap up, so she could figure to go thru right off, had an X-pen right by it, so she could not have the run of the house, either in the x-pen or out in the yard and so she learned quickly.
We also took her out a million times a day, crated her at night.
You see, it takes confinement, don’t ever let her loose in a large indoor place unless it is for a few minutes right after you saw her yourself relieve herself, otherwise she will have to be in the crate or x-pen or in the yard.
Let us know what you have done and we can think what else you can try.
#1 reason for IGs in rescue I’ve been told. Mine was never completely trustworthy and he had a dog door. If the weather didn’t suit him he would go in the basement. Have you tried potty pads or litter box training? Google litter box training IGs; lots of info. Love the IGs! Good luck…
I don’t have a doggy door. I just taken her out often she does great for a few days then slips up. Then the cycle starts over again. I guess confinement would be a way to go or try potty pads. I’m sure I need to discipline myself better
Many people litter train the toy dogs with the pan lined with potty pads or shavings. IG’s are notoriously hard to housebreak. They are such a wonderful breed it is a shame they are so difficult in this area. I had a client years ago that was very successful at housebreaking them, but she has been out of the breed for quite some time. I can try calling her old number and seeing if I could get ahold of her, but I think its a longshot. Good luck and enjoy your IG, they are truly one of the most beautiful breeds out there.

We have an Iggy and he is totally housetrained. Consistency and food rewards worked for him. He was easier than the Chihuahua… We have a definite routine for feeding and the water comes up before bedtime. We make sure he goes out before bedtime as late as possible. He learned to go quickly when the weather was bad. He also has a rain coat. Make sure you are giving your dog a LOT of exercise.
One of us is usually home for most of the day, but the dog goes into a crate when we leave for more than a few hours. Mostly because he likes my flip flops! :winkgrin:

Don’t lose hope…it can be done.
Someone once told me the only solution for housebreaking an IG was hardwood floors! 
I have an IG that is now about nine years old. When we got her, we had two geriatric IGs who were incontinent. Let me tell you, Sofie stood no chance of figuring out housebreaking in the beginning, as our carpets were ruined beyond repair by the older two.
While we still have the occasional issue, for the most part when we were became very consistent with a routine for going out and making sure we took her and our other dog out at close enough intervals, she figured it out with relative ease.
She is now at the point where she will stay in bed under the covers snuggling with my hubby until 6:40. At exactly 6:40 she will stretch and jump down off the bed and sit at the door to the bathroom letting me know it’s time for me to take her out. She does not like it if I am even one minute late. She looks at me disdainfully and goes in her crate with the door open saying “hurry up MOM!”
These are extremely bright dogs (she has tons of different toys and if I ask her to bring any of them, whether it be the octopus or the monkey, she ALWAYS gets it right. She has a better comprehension than some children I think), but they can also be extremely sneaky. Your Iggie should be crated when you are not able to keep an eye on her and I can’t stress enough - routine is the KEY!
